Davidian/Our Fear Is There Source/Massacre Records/2012 CD Review

Davidian  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  brutal  form  of  death/thrash  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Our  Fear  Is  There  Source"  which  was  released  by  Massacre  Records.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  good  amount  of  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  as  for  the  synths  which  are  only  utilized  briefly  they  bring  a  very  dark  and  atmospheric  sound  to  the  music.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  influences  from  both  death  and thrash  metal  with  some  melodies  being  used  at  times  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  soft  and  clean  playing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals  range  from  thrash  growling,  deep  death  metal  growls  and  high  pitched  screams,  while  the  lyrics  cover  aggressive  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  Davidian  are  a  very  good  sounding  modern  day  death/thrash  metal  band  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  this  style,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Behind  An  Angelic  Smile"  "Shattered  Illusions"  "Vicious  Circle"  and  "Freedom  Of  Choice".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Ominous Crucifix Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Well at this time we are taking a great relaxing time after very busy 2011. We came from three records sessions and lot of things to think about. We are glad to see our work out there in Europe. Our “Spell of Damnation” soon will arrive to America and FDA Recotz has been doing a great job distributing it. In the next days we will be back to rehearsal room to start creating new stuff, so this camp is energized and motivated for this 2012.

2. How would you describe the musical on the full length and how it differs from previous recordings?

Our music has pragmatic form from the point of view of nowadays commercial death metal. Our roots are very classical, brutal, raw and evil. Our perverse tunes create dark atmosphere with a very particular composition, no harmonies, and no grinding parts. For now all lyrics are related with anti-Christian subjects only. Our actual sound distant too much from our first stuff, this approach is what we are looking for… dense and black.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?

As I mentioned before, our lyrics are a very putrid criticism against catholic and Christian doctrines. Our vision in not satanic, however it’s evil and perverse as a heretic protest. We desecrate every main element of this false faith and its foundations, institutions and leaders.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the band's name?

To mystify the crucifix as a tool for worshiping a perverted desire, a false path for spirit liberation, blackened in putrid innocent’s blood, blinded by promises of a new life.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

We don’t played live so much, we always wanted to spend our time on rehearsal and keep ourselves on making more songs. In Mexico there are a lot of gigs, but with a very poor quality, we don’t want to be part of it. We have played just like 7 times near our city. Our performance it’s a very common show, no fire, no blood just a black aura.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?

First we want people to now Ominous Crucifix through our “The Spell…”, so later people can ask for us to tour with another bands. Right now is difficult because our location, it’s very expensive to take a Mexican band to Europe. I see this more real until our next assault.

7. On a worldwide level how has your music been received by death metal fans?

50/50 I think, most people expect a very nice & polished sound, and rather they found out dense vibes of death and unholiness. In the other hand there are lots of people that understand this band and embrace this particularity. However we are planning to have faster riffs in our upcoming production and change a little bit some composition structures without lose our primordial sound.

8. Are there any other projects besides this band or is this a full time line-up?

Cesar is the only one that plays in two bands: Ominous Crucifix & Sargatanas. However I feel that none from us have time to try with another band, Ominous Crucifix takes much already from our free time.

9. What direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?

Of course there are things that must be improved, as I mentioned before, we will try faster riffs but that’s only what we have in mind. Our musical style does not depend of people acceptance but from our pure point of view about death metal music and its roots legacy.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Early bands  : Necrophobic, Goreaphobia, Entombed, Old Funeral, Morbid Angel, Sepultura, Rotting Christ, Paradise Lost, Incantation & Immolation. As for nowadays bands I’m into : Cruciamentum, Pseudogod, Grave Miasma, Necros Christos, Ophis, Bastard Priest, Miasmal, Vorum, Krypts, Ascended, Entrails.

11. What role does Occultism and Anti Christianity play in your music and how would you describe your views on these topics?

 It’s all about …

Occultism is a subject that was very attractive to me in my early 20s. I read dozens of books with amazing and profound sense of mysticism and really like to pour out some of this knowledge into the band concept.

Christianity is a plague that rots the human inspiration, infects all passions with absurd quilt, dramatized the suffering of a mortal god converting him in icon of mercy and wisdom, and polarized the feeling of man confusing his nature.

12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

My job has to do with Information Technology, so I like all technology related stuff.  Also I do some graphic design works and read too much. But what we really enjoy most is to listen to old and new death metal bands all day, having fun with friends.

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Thank you very much BRINGEROFDEATHZINE, we really appreciate your labor as metal journalist doing so much for the bands and keeping metal maniacs informed about EL METAL DE MUERTE. To all your followers we would like to invite them to follow OMINOUS CRUCIFIX in our BandCamp & Facebook sites, also to buy our “The Spell of Damnation” CD via FDA Recotz, and our upcoming SPLIT with ENTRAILS.

Spawn Of Possession/Incurso/Relapse Records/2012 CD Review

Spawn  Of  Possession  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  very  technical  form  of  brutal  death  metal and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Incurso"  which  was  released  by  Relapse  Records.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  synths  which  are  only  utilized  briefly  on  the  intro  and  the  last  song  bring  a  very  symphonic  sound  to  the  music,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has   a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  progressive  sounding  death  metal  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  technical  death  metal  riffs  that  are  very  brutal  sounding  with  some  melodies  and  influences  from  many  different  genres  of  music,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  technical  sounding  death  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads  that  uses  a  variety  of  many  different  complex  scales.

Vocals  are  mostly  deep  death  metal  growls  with  some  high  pitched  screams  being  thrown  in  at  times,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes  that  have  somewhat  of  an  occult  feeling  to  them,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  and  you  can  easily  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

In  my  opinion  Spawn  Of  Possession  are  a  very  great  sounding  technical  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  style,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Where  Angels  Go  Demons  Follow"  "The  Evangelist"  "Spirit  Of  Deception"  and  "No  Light  Spared".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Funeral Whore Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?
TIM
We try to create a really eerie vibe around the band. To give it the most morbid feeling we can bring on shows, artwork, skulls, props and such.
ROY
We started in 2006 with only 1 goal, OSDM to the bone. No technical high standard crap metal, no clean gayvocals, no faggot keyboards. Pure old school death metal.
In a 5 year period we have had 4 drummers and none of them matched with the band. This was the cause of a bad start but our fanatism for death metal kept the band pounding forward.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?
TIM
To give it even more an eery vibe to it we play in B. Everyone says we have doom influences, but I don´t think that´s really true. We just play Old School Death Metal from 30 years ago.
ROY
We play B tuned death metal which mostly nearing the early Grave albums. Are songs are not long, it’s dark, obscure and aggressive. We have no blastbeats and we have the common use not to use melodic guitar riffs. This gives the music are very nihillistic, dirty evil sounding character. When you listen to the album, I’m sure you notice this.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
TIM
Death, Horror and Destruction. HAHAHA
ROY
Death & darkness is the maintheme of the band. This can be found in horrormovies, walking along the cemeteries or simply taking a look in your own morbid mind. For me personally the way to work things out for the songs.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
ROY
None, it just sounds brutal.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
TIM
For me personally the shows we played in Germany. They really know what metal means and how to have a real good time.
ROY
The shows in Germany were killers. But I personally must admit I was stunned by the show last time in our hometown Beverwijk, definantly a killer show too.
KELLIE
I have a great time on stage, every gig!!! But I think the visitors of our gigs make it complete!!! So the gig in Basel (Zwitserland), de gigs in Germany and also the gig in our hometown Beverwijk where awesome!!!

6. Do you have any touring plans?
TIM
As far as I am concerned YES!
ROY
We are working out a bunch of shows in the east but not all have been confirmed yet. For tours, we are ready, that’s for sure.
KELLIE
We’re ready and want to go on tour, so where very busy trying to arrange some tours!!!

7. On a worldwide level how has your music been recieved by death metal fans?
ROY
For so far it’s fucking great! Good reviews and ratings. I think it’s osdm simplicity will be appriciated by older age metalheads. Our music is made for a specific group of metalheads, the osdm guys worldwide. Not for the technical bullshit idiotes of the mainstream nowadays crap.
KELLIE
The reactions are great!!!

8. Are there any other projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?
TIM
This band consumes most of my time, and I don't want it any other way. So no.
ROY
Funeral Whore is my mainband, which stays that way. I’m active in a black metal project with a group of friends. Every now and than we rehearsal, no rush.
KELLIE
I don’t have other projects besides Funeral Whore

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
TIM
I agree what Roy says. HAHAHA.
ROY
Because we are extremly fanatic and enthousiastic, much more than the average death metalband, our music will reach out toward the bigger stages. And that’s no bullshit, it’s the truth. We have our goals, are loyal to eachother and this certain brotherhood and efforts in the band will reward us intime, no question about that.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
ROY
Most influence came from the early Grave albums. Early Unleashed, Entombed, Benediction and other osdm bands have inspired me very much. For years now I listen to osdm, brutal death metal and underground black metal.

11. Outside of music what are some of your interests?
ROY
I have so many intrests in so many things, too much to mention.
KELLIE
I’m changing my motorcycle so far that I like it as hell, so hopefully I can drive on my bike this summer!!!

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
ROY
Yeah, any osdm band worldwide, contact us now for comradeship! OSDM to the bone!

Revel In Flesh Interview

Answered by Haubersson / REVEL IN FLESH
1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

Haubersson: First of all a hi to the readship of BRINGER OF DEATH Zine! Well, REVEL IN FLESH was more or less born as a project in Autumn 2011 when it was obvious that my old band IMMORTAL RITES was more or less falling apart. Most idead in REVEL IN FLESH already developed since 2007 and you can hear the result finally on our debut album “Deathevokation” which should be out end of March 2012 on FDA REKOTZ.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

Haubersson: Death Metal the way it was meant to be!!! REVEL IN FLESH is certainly not about getting a new brand it’s about our passion to the glorious days of Death Metal in the early 90ies!!! It’s about the feeling of the old and rotten way of this particular style!!!

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Haubersson: The lyrics should fit the music and all issues dealing in REVEL IN FLESH could be seen as a sort of cronicles of death in varified forms!!! Just read and find out!!!

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

Haubersson: It’s obvious that the bandname is taken right away from the NIHILIST / ENTOMBED track with the same title!!! Anyone out there who is nit familar with the magnificant “Left Hand Path” album!?!

5. Has the band had any oppurtunities to do any live shows if so what are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

Haubersson: In the current mood REVEL IN FLESH is a two freak studio project. There are plans top expand into a proper line – up with session memembers for a possible live show, but it’s too early to make any announcements right now!!!

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?

Haubersson:  So far not...at the moment of writing the album isn’t released, so wait and bleed!!!

7. On a worldwide level how has your music been received by the death metal fans that have heard it so far?

Haubersson: Hard to say since we’ve just started with the internet stuff (Facebook, homepage etc.) 2 months ago – it’s still a rather new band to the scene. But the response on our first promoclip for the track “Wings of Death” was really promising!!!
Maniacs who need a deadly injection of old Death Metal with sort of Swedish HM2 pedal driven sound should keep an eye on REVEL IN FLESH!!!

8. What is going on with the other band projects these days?

Haubersson: My comrade Maggesson is still busy with his other bands DAWN OF DREAMS (Germany), APOPHIS and just recently started a grind project entitled ROTTEN POPE. It’s gonna be damned brutal!!! Beware!!!

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

Haubersson: Hard to say, but according to some new material we’ve done recently we will keep the raw basics of “Deathevokation” and take it over to a more doom and horror ridden atmosphere!!! I guess it’s gonna me again really varified under the band of classical Death Metal.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Haubersson: Oh! Let me say the classical 90ies Stockholm bands, British stuff like BOLT THROWER, BENEDICTION, CANCER and of course German FLESHCRAWL, too. A lot of stuff. I also like new wave old schoolers like MORBUS CHRON, TORMENTED, FUNEBRARUM, UNDERGANG (DK) and so much more; it’s hard to focus it just on a few names!!!

11. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Haubersson: Beer, Salmiakki, Ouzo, Jim Beam….Ha! Ha!

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Haubersson: Thanx for your feature of REVEL IN FLESH. Readers feel free to click in the following pages:

Listenable Records/2011 Sampler Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  sampler  from  Listenable  Records  that  came  out  in  2011  and we  will  review  the  songs  one  by  one.

Starting  of  the  compilation  is  Tornado  with  "Hate  Worldwide"  a  song  that  is  very  much  in  the  early  80's  power  metal  vein  which  sounds  like  it  could  of  been  recorded  back  then  since  there  was  nothing  modern  about  it.

Next  up is  Gojira  with  "Yamas  Messengers"  a  groove/death  metal  hybrid  song  that  is  to  mainstream  for  my  liking  but  would  appeal  to  fans  of  this  style.

Next  up  is  Stephan  Forte  with  "Duat"  an  instrumental  metal/hard  rock  hybrid  song  that  mixes  in  the  heaviness  of  groove  metal  to  update  the  instrumental  metal/hard  rock  genre.

Next  up  is  Sarah  Jezebel  Deva  with  "The  World  Wont Hold  Your  Head"  a  symphonic  gothic  metal  song  from  the  album  that  came  out  a  few  months  back.

Next  up  is  Betraying  The  Martyrs  with  "Martyrs"  a  symphonic  brutal  technical/death  metal  which   is  very  different  sounding  and  while  it  has  its  brutal  elements  the  nu  and  groove  metal  influences  ruin  the  song.

Next  up  is  Katana  with  "Phoenix  On  Fire"  a  hard  rock/metal  sound  that  would  appeal  to  fans  of  hair,  traditional  and  power  metal  since it  mixes  elements  from  all  of  those  genres  and  this  song  could  of  easily  came  out  in  the  80's  but  generic  sounding  compared  to  the  better  bands  of  that  era.

Next  up  is  Svart  Crown  with  "Into  A  Demential  Sea"  a  brutal  black/death  metal  hybrid  song  which  is  a  very  great  song  and  an  improvement  from  the  other  songs  I  previously  mentioned.

Next  up is  Hate  with  "Lux  Aeturna"  a  great  and  brutal  occult  death  metal song  with  a  blackened  edge.

Next  up  is  Heavenwood  with  "Once  A  Burden"  an  atmospheric  gothic/doom/death  metal  song  which  is  another  great  addition  to  the  compilation.

Next  up  is  Izegrim  with  "Deathstrip"  a  brutal  melodic  death  metal/thrash  hybrid  song   that  came  of  their  recent  album ,  another  great  song  for  this  compilation.

Next  up  is  Kruger  with  "Villians"  a  mainstream  sounding  groove/stoner  metal  song  which  is  not  really  my  style.

Next  up  is  Panzerchrist  with  "Impact"  another  great  brutal  sounding  death  metal  song  with  a  blackened  edge.

Next  up is  Tormented  with  "Come  Back  From  The  Dead"  a  very  great  classic  sounding  Swedish  style  death  metal  song.

Next  up  is  Order  Of  Apollyon  with  "Never"  a  very  great  and  brutal  sounding  occult  blackened  death  metal  song.

Next  up  is  Cavus  with  "Death  Rattle'  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  primitive  black  metal  song.

Next  up  is  77  High  Decibels  with  a  song  that  sounds  like  an  AC/DC  rip  off  with  an  influence  from  NWOBHM.

Next  up  is  Darkane  with  a  live  version  of  "Convicted"  a  very  brutal  and  melodic  sounding  death/thrash  metal  song.

Next  up  is  Livarkahil  with  "Flesh Of  The  Damned"  a  brutal  blackened  death  metal  song  that  has  a  metalcore  edge  to  it.

Next  up  is  Electric  mary  with  "OIC"  another  classic  sounding  hard  rock/metal  song.

Next  up  is  The  Red  Shore  with  "The  Seed  Of  Annihilation"  another  decent  sounding  technical/brutal  death  metal  song.

The  Order  Of  Apollyon  return  with  "Word"  another  great  brutal  blackened  death  metal  song  from  this  band.

Closing  this  sampler  is  Serpent  Cult  with  "Growth  Of  The  Soil"  another  great  sludge/doom  metal  song  from  this  band.

In  my  opinion  this  is  an  ok  sampler  from  Listenable  Records  with  some  good  songs  as  well  as  some  songs  that  where  not  great,  and  while  I  would  not  spend  money  on  a  compilation  like  this,  I  would  still  add  it  to  my  collection  and  go  out  and  buy  albums  from  the  decent  bands  on  this  compilation  which  I  already  own  most  of  the  albums  on  this  recording.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  alot  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  on  the  last  song  they  sound  very  powerful.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  Swedish  style  death  metal  riffs  that  are  very  brutal  sounding  with  a  good  amount  of  melody  and  thrash  influences   while  the  lead  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  are  very  dark  and  melodic  sounding  death  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Funeral Whore/Step Into Damnation/Chaos Records/2012 CD Review

Funeral  Whore  are  a band  from  The  Netherlands  that  plays  90's  style  Swedish  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Step  Into  Damnation"  which  was  released  by  Chaos  Records.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  good  amount  of  blast  beats  being  thrown  in  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is coming  out  of  the  guitars.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  Swedish  death  metal  riffs  that  also  utilize  a  good amount  of   dark  sounding  melodies,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  chaotic  and  melodic  sounding  death  metal guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals  are  all  seep  death  metal  growls  with  a  brief  use  of  samples,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  gory  and  anti  christian  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  heavy  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  while  Funeral  Whore  are  not  very  original  sounding  they  still  put  out  decent  Swedish  style  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan of  this  style,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Wasteland  Of  Corpses"  "Buried  In  Hell"  "Failure  Of  The Sacrifice"  and  "Camp  Blood".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
