Zombiefacation/Midnight Stench/Chaos Records/2011 CD Review

Zombiefication are a band from Mexico that plays a Swedish style of death metal in the early 90's vien and this is a review of their 2010 album "Midnight Stench" which was released by Chaos Records.

Drums range from slow, midpaced to fast with some brutal blast beats being thrown in, while the bass playing has a dark yet somewahat powerful tone with alot of raw death metal riffing.

Rhytm guitars range from slow, midpaced to fast old school Swedish style death metal riffing with a thrashy edge, while the lead guitars are very chaotic sounding death metal guitar solos.

Vocals are deep death metal growls that are very easy to understand with some ocassional high pitched screams, while the lyrics cover deah, gothic fiction, and horror themes, as for the production it has a ery heavy, professional but still very raw sounding.

In my opinion Zombiefication are a very good old chool death metal band, in the classsic Swedish vien and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECEMMONDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cryptic Broadcast" "Broken Gravestone" "Hitchcock Screaming" and "Blood And Disgorge". RECEMMONDED BUY.

Dischordia Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?
Dischordia is a three piece progressive death metal band from Oklahoma City. We've had this current line up for about 6-8 months and everything feels sexy.

2. How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the e.p?
Technical and progressive in nature. We tried to pick an array of songs that capture the range of our sound. We're heavily rooted in death metal but we try to use all of our outside influences to showcase the diversity within the band.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
We try to explore multiple ideas with each song. The range of topics is a lot more meaningful than normal death metal gore-type lyrics.
Some of these topics include faith, love, death and other concept based ideas.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
We liked the concept of using "Dischord" in the name. We then borrowed the term "Discordia" from The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, and added the "h" for the musical implications. We also then remembered 'The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers'.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
Our first headlining show here in Oklahoma City was probably our best show. But we also got the chance recently to open for Dying Fetus in Tulsa. That of course was huge for us. We try to have high energy on stage to match our sound.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?
We were hoping to have something lined up for December, but if that doesn't pan out we'll for sure be making our way around in the Spring of '12.

7.Are there any side projects besides this band or is this a full time line-up?
This is a full time line-up, but our drummer, Josh, plays for another local progressive metal band called Switchblade Rosie. We all write and compose in all styles in our own free time for potential projects.

8. Currently you are unsinged are you looking for a label and if so, what kind of label do you that would be a perfect fit for the music?
We basically are looking for anyone who can help us get on the road and keep us there. We're using this release to shop out to labels to see what is available.

9. On a worldwide level how has your music been recieved by technical death metal fans?
Canada likes us! We hired Eric Burnet, an online media specialist, from Ricburn Media. He is based in Canada and helped us form an online presence beyond Oklahoma. The feedback we've received as a whole has been positive and reflective of our major influences.

10. What direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?
Afro-Cuban Polka. Like we said we have a lot of material but the new things we're working on are definitely getting more technical.

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Decapitated, Meshuggah, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Opeth would be our main influences. We all have a wide variety of musical tastes which keeps our music from becoming stale. Our guitarist Keeno is currently hyping the new Steven Wilson solo album, the new Opeth, and some select Depeche Mode. Our vocalist Turner is currently jamming the new Thrice album, the latest release by The Dear Hunter, and he is always listening to Dredg. Our drummer Josh always keeps Catch 33 by Meshuggah close by. He's also jamming the newest Decapitated and the new Trivium.

12. How would you describe the metal scene in your home state of Oklahoma?
Our local scene is really involved but it's very saturated with bands that sound very similar within each genre. Either way we have some great supportive fans and there are a lot of good bands around.

13. Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Keeno is working on his doctoral dissertation in Counseling Psychology and just finished his first batch of home brewed beer... and it doesn't suck. The Josh's are immersed in music through school and through teaching. Turner is working on a Master's in Percussion Performance and Josh is finishing his Bachelor's in Music Performance, so there is no real time for anything outside of music... besides Netflix.

14. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Read The Dark Tower series and don't just listen to metal. Now go buy our EP. Thanks for having us.

Tormented/Rotten Death/Listenable Records/2011 CD Review

Tormented are a band from Sweden that consists of many veterans of the Swedish scene that plays a very old school form of Swedish death metal and this is a review of their 2011 album "Rotten Death" which was released by Listenable Records.

Drums range from slow, midpaced to fast drumming with a lot of brutal sounding blast beats being thrown in, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, midpaced to fast Swedish style death metal riffs that are very brutal at times, while the lead guitars are very distorted sounding death metal; guitar leads and solos in the early 90's tradition.

Vocals are mostly classic sounding Swedish death metal growls that also have somewhat of a death/thrash feeling to them, while the lyrics cover gore, death and dying with other traditional death metal style lyrics that do not cover much new ground, as for the production it has a very dark, heavy and brutal sound to it.

In my o-pinion while Tormented is not the most original band that I have heard, i still think that they create quality Swedish style death metal and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band.
