Vomiting Corpses/Coma The Spheres Of Innocence/Wardead Records/2014 CD Re-issue Review

Vomiting  Corpses  where  a  band  from  Germany  that  played  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1995  album  "Coma  The  Spheres  Of  Innocence"  which  was  re-issued  in  2014  by  Wardead  Records  and  also  contains  their  demo  "Cold  Blood".

Dark  sound  effects  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  heavy  direction  along  with  blast  beats  and  a  mixture  of  screams  and  growls  as  well  as  bringing  in  a  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  they  also  add  morbid  sounding  melodies  into their  musical  sound  at  times  and  the  band  only  uses  a  small  amount  of  guitar  solos  and  leads.

The  music  that  is  present  on  this  album  is  a  reflection  of  how  death  metal  sounded  during  that  time  and  you  can  tell  the  band  was  heavily  influenced  by  the  other  bands  that  where  in  this  genre  around  the  early  90's  and  they  also  add  in  back  up  shouts  and  spoken  word  parts  on  some  of  the  songs  which  was  rarely  used  back  then.

As  the  album  progresses  clean  singing  is  added  briefly  on  one  of  the  tracks  which  which  considered  rare  and  original  for  a  death  meta l band  in  1995,  the  second  side  of  the  album  is  an  old  demo  from  the  early  90's  and  the  tracks  are  in  the  same  direction as  the  album  but  with  a  more  rawer  sound  and  the  music  also  has  a  more  dirty  style  of  death  metal  to  them  and  some  of  the  songs  utilize  a  small  amount  of  synths  which  also  gives  their  music  a  very  dark  and  evil  atmosphere  and  they  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  female  vocals  on  one  of  their  songs.

Vomiting  Corpses  played  mostly  a  style  of  death  metal  that  was  common  for  the  early  90's  but  they  also  added  in  a  few  original  elements  to  make  their  music  really  stand  out,  the  production  ranges  from  a  raw  to  professional  sound,  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  horror  and  war  themes.

In  my  opinion  Vomiting  Corpses  where  a  very  great  sounding  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should c heck  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kingdom  Of  The  Blind"  "Ice-Age  Of  the  Common  Sense"  "Screaming  Spirits"  and  "Exhausted  Will  TO  Live".  8  out  of  10.

Day Of Doom Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days? (Rich)We have been playing alot of shows and we have been getting ready for our release "The Gates of Hell" to be released June 6th on Lavadome productions  http://www.lavadome.org/

2.You have a new album coming out in June, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past? (Rich) With The Gates we wanted to just push our self and also bring out the other style's of Metal we love. Our past releases "Night of Horror and Slaves to Insanity" had the there own feel mostly brutal death metal but Gate's has more of a progressive feel to it, longer songs and twisted guitar solo's. (Doug) We come from a time long forgotten, We are they who howled at the midnight moon during the 80's and 90's schooled on old world death metal and into a new error of brutality armed with the chaos of modern barbarity. To me this new release is a tutorial for the luridly obscene and unbinds the boundries from all our other releases.
3.In the beginning the band was instrumental but know has vocals and lyrics, what was the decision behind adding these into your musical sound? (Rich) We have been asked this a few times and the truth is we always had the idea of putting vocal's into the music but we put some stuff on Myspace and a few people just thought we we're an instrumetal band but that was never the case. We do have versions of those demos with vocals and we do love instrumentals and have one on The Gates of Hell Then we'll be doing another sick one on our next release.
4.Can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrical topics the band explores with the newer music and also do the band members have any interest in Occultism? (Doug) In a way, we are a cult in a sense that this music is a way to vent our anger at religion amongst other things in general. Religion is angry, saturated with fear and lies intended to nourish the simple minded closed. I suppose our lyrics are intended not for you to pick sides but to open peoples minds to the grand underworld of our Death Metal Cult. Follow us...
5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Day Of Doom'? (Rich) Many people think the name came from a Superman comic but the truth is the name came from the character Thusa Doom from the movie Conan the Barbarian. In the movie Thusa Doom said "Purging is at last at hand. Day of Doom is here. All that is evil, all their allies; your parents, your leaders, those who would call themselves your judges; those who have lied and corrupted the Earth, they shall all be cleansed".At that moment the name of the band was spawned.
6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance? (Rich) One show that stand's out was playing with Deicide at Gramercy Theater. The turn out was great and we crushed it that night and another show that stands out was playing with the mighty Suffocation at Webster Hall the place went ape shit as for our stage performance we feel we give off a vibe that is pure evil and power and the fan's have been feeding off of that vibe for sure. It's no holds barred when we hit the stage.
(Doug) Webster Hall yes! A kick ass show and we fall into our natural zones on stage as if our alter egos have broken thier demonic silence and have unleashed thier rage upon this dying world in the form of relentless drums and doom, maniacal guitars and the diabolic lower register of ear ripping bass.
7.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released? (Rich) We do have a local show May 31st and are planing a CD release party (T.B.A) but no touring plan's at the moment but we would love to bring Day of Doom to the masses.
8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of brutal death metal? (Rich) It has been great. Many have said that the music has a old school feel with a new fresh outlook as well, so far we are very happy with the responce world wide. (Doug) We're looking forward to more positive feedback for this new release and I can personally guarantee that it will rip your face off so badly that you'll have to put it on over and over again just to get it back!
9.Are any of the band members involved with any other musical projects these days? (Rich) No day of doom is our full time and only band we all play in and we feel that's the best way to go so all our focus can be put into bringing the best into Day of Doom.
10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future? (Rich) We will always test the limits musically and never let it get stale. For the next release we plan on writing what could be looked at as the Death Metal version of Rush's 2112. (Doug)  Expect a psychological whirlwind of esoteric tones and mind altering madness that will take you on a journey through the remnants of what is left of hell after we are through with it and unto earth thy doom explodes!
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays? (Rich) Being from Long Island, Suffocation has always been an influence on us but we have always made it a point to not be carbon copy of them. Some other band's we love are Gorguts, Ripping corpse, Human Remains, Damonacy, Lethargy, Death, Morbid Angel, Slayer, Iron maiden, Rush, Dream Theater and Kiss as for what we're listening to today Nero Di Marte, Pyrrhon, Animals As Leaders but hands down the new Gorguts and Suffocation has not left the cd player.
12.What are some of your non musical interests? (Rich) We are very into art, Our guitar player Doug has his horror comic called Insane Tales From The Dead. If your into sick horror comics, you should check out his work for sure! (Doug) Terror yarns of decay and madness await you!www.insanetalesfromthedead.com Order issue number one now or be doomed!
13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts? (Rich) We would like to say thanks to everyone who checked us out live or took the time to check out our music, it means alot to us and trust that if you love crushing brutal metal get your self over to the Lavadome website  http://store.lavadome.org/  and order a copy of The Gates of Hell and you will not be disappointed Stay evil DAY OF DOOM IS NEAR.

Locusta/Dendromorphosis/2014 EP Review

Locusta  are  a  band  from  Ohio  that  plays  a  very  technical  and  brutal  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2014  ep  "Dendromorphosis".

A  very  melodic  and  technical  sound  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  and  adding  in  a  mixture  of  growls  and  screams  along  with  some  powerful  sounding  bass  lines  and  on  the  following  track  the  music  starts  going  into  a  faster  direction  along  with  some  brutal  sounding  blast  beats.

The  band  has  a  good  balance  with  their  music  taking  some  very  technical  and  skillful  playing  and  mixing  it  with  brutal  death  metal  and  I  can  also  hear  elements  of  old  school  thrash  metal  of  the  technical  variety  in  their  musical  sound  and  the  last  track  is  a  cover  of  Death's  "See  Through  Dreams"..

Locusta  have  a  very  interesting  sound  with  their  music  being  a  brutal  form  of  death  metal  that  is  also  very  technical,  melodic  and  old  school  sounding  at  the  same  time,  the  production  sound s very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  and  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

In  my  opinion  Locusta  are  a  very  great  sounding  technical  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should c heck  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Cull"  and  "See  Through  Dreams".  8  out  of  10.

Konkeror/The Abysmal Horizons/Lacerated Enemy Records/2014 CD Review

Konkeror  are  a  band  from  Detroit,  Michigan  that  plays  a  very  progressive  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "The  Abysmal  Horizons"  which  was  released  by  Lacerated  Enemy  Records.

Acoustic  guitars  along  with  melodic  guitar  leads  start  off  the  album  with  the  music  going  into  a  heavier  direction  a  few  seconds  alter  as  well  as  adding  in  a  good  amount  of  melody  before  speeding  up  and  adding  in  brutal  blast  beats  and  death  metal  growls  and  they  also  utilize  a  great  amount  of  thrash  influences.

The  guitar  leads  are  in  a  very  melodic  and  technical  sounding  direction  and  they  also  add  in  high  pitched  screams  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  on  some  of  the  alter  tracks  acoustic  guitars  make  their  return  which  then  take  the  music  into  a  more  atmospheric  and  progressive  death  metal  direction.

On  some  of t he  alter  tracks  angry  shouts  are  added  into  the  music  along  with  small  amounts  of  demonic  voices  and  avant  garde  synths  are  added  in  briefly  on  one  track  and  the band  also  has  a  sound  that  is  close  to  black  metal  for  a  few  seconds  and  the  album  gets  more  diverse  and  epic  as  time  goes  on  by  while  also  always  remaining  very  heavy  and  melodic  all  at  the  same  time.

Konkeror  create  a  very  diverse  dearth  metal  album  that  combine s the  brutal  and  progressive  sides  of  the  genre  together  as  well  as  adding  in  a  good  amount  of  melody  and  old  school  influences  while  also  still  sounding  very  modern,  the  production  is  very  professional  sounding  and  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Philosophy,  Mythology,  Religion  and  Space.

In  my  opinion  Konkeror  are  a  very  great  sounding  progressive  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should c heck  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I,  Monolithic"  "Incantations"  "The  Pillars  of  Creation"  and  "Cenotaph"  which  is  a  Bolt  thrower  cover.  8/5  out  of  10.

War Messiah/Graveyard Feeding/All Seeing Eye Art/2014 EP Review

War  Messiah  are  a  band  from  Poland  that plays  a  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  ep  "Graveyard  Feeding"  which  was  released  by  All  Seeing  Eye  Art.

A  very  old  school  thrash  sound  starts  off  the  album before  adding  in  blast  beats  and  a  mixture  of  screams  which  are  in  the  more  thrash  vein  and  growls  which  bring  out  the  death  metal  along  with  some  melody  which  they  also  mix  into  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  which  also  enhance  the  old  school  metal  feeling  of  the  record.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  ep  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  music  is  very  old  school  sounding  going  back  to  a  time  where  death  metal  had  a  more  thrash  orientated  feeling  86-88  era  to  it  while  the  growls   on  the  album  are  where  the  true  death  metal  elements  really  start  to  kick  in  and  on  one  of  the  tracks  there  is  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  aprts  beign  utilized  and  the  last  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

War  Messiah  are  another  young  band  playing  a  very  old  school  style  taking  80's  thrash  and  the  beginning  era  of  death  metal  and  combining  them  together  along  with  a  good  amount  of  melody,  the  production  has  an  old  school  feeling  while  also  being  modern  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  anti  religion,  war,  suicide  and  graveyard  themes.

In  my  opinion  War  Messiah  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kill  Your Priest"  and  "Graveyard  Feeling".  8  out  of  10.

Day Of Doom/The Gates Of Hell/Lavadome Productions/2014 CD Review

Day  Of  Doom  are  a  band  from New  York  that  plays  an  old  school  and  brutal  form  of  New  York  style  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "The  Gates  of  hell"  which  will  be  released  by  Lavadome  Productions.

The  sound s of  hell  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  brutal  and  fast  death  metal  sound  along  with  a  mixture  of  growls,  screams  and  blast  beats  as  well  as  bringing  in  solos  and  leads  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  band  also  has  clean  and  acoustic  playing  in  their  sound  at  times  which  also  brings  a  very  progressive  sounding  feeling  to  the  recording.

The  horror  movie  samples  the  band  uses  makes  the  music  have  a  more  evil  edge  to  it  as  well  as  making  the  brutal  death  metal  sound  this  band  creates  have  a  dark  atmosphere  and  the  band  also  bring  in  small  amounts  of  melody  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  a  light  thrash  influence  which  is  more  closer  to  the  first  wave  death  metal  style.

As  the  album  progresses  the  band  finds their  sound  mixing  in  the  early  brutal  death  metal  sound  with  the  more  modern  one  while  also  staying  away  from  anything  ultra  technical  and  bringing  back  a  more  back  to  basics  approach  to  brutal  death  metal  and  their  instrumentals  are  the  best  i  have  hear  since  Morbid  Angle's  early  work  wit h this  band  also  seeming  to  have  an  influence  on  the  band.

Day  Of  Doom  bring  back  a  brutal  death  metal  sound  that  has  no  elements  of  anything  core  or  too  technical  while  they  still  have  a  small  amount  of  that  and  also  brings  back  an  evil  atmosphere  which  most  brutal  bands  of  this  genre  ignore,  the  production  is  very  professional  sounding  while the lyrics  cover  dark,  horror  and  occult  themes.

In  my  opinion  Day  Of  Doom  are  a  very  great  sounding  brutal  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should c heck  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Gates  Of  Hell"  "An  Evil  Demoncy  (The  Last  Days  of  Sodom"  "Circle  of  Eternal  Aftermath"  and  "Through  Horrible  Despair".  8/5  out  of  10.

Monumentomb/Ritual Exhumanation/2014 EP Review

Monumentomb  are  a  band  from  the  United  kingdom  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2014  ep  "Ritual  Exhumanation".

A  ritualistic  sounding  intro   before  dark  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  ep  as  well  speeding  up  a  bit  and  adding  in  blast  beats  and  more  raw  aggression  which  leads  up  to  growls  and  a  more  mid  80's  style  of  death  metal  which  also  has  a  thrash  feeling  at  times  and  the  band  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  into  their  music.

The  guitar  solos  and  leads  enhance  the  melodic  feeling  of  the  recording  along  with  a  small  amount  of  high  pitched  screams  and  a  lot  of  the  tracks  have  a  Swedish  death  metal  feeling  to  them  along  with  a  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  rawness of  the  early  Florida  bands  and  the  band  never  add  in  any  influences  from  the  metal  genres  of  the  last  20  years  into  their  music  except  for  maybe  the  melodic  vocals  they  utilize  briefly.

Monumentomb  are  another  younger  band  going  back  to  the  roots  of  true  death  metal  and  adding  in  their  own  melodic  take  on t he  genre  and  while  the  songs  are  not  very  original  they  are  still  played  in  the  true  ways  of  death  metal,  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  old  school  sound  and  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  evil  and  death.

In  my  opinion  Monumentomb  are  a  very  great  sounding   old  school  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "In  The  Crypt  Devoured"  and  "Ritual  Exhumanation".  8  out  of 10.
