Echelon/Indulgence Over Abstinence Behind The Obsidian Veil/Metal /inquisition Records/2015 CD Review

  Echelon  are  an  international  duo  with  Sweden's  Rogga  Johansson  from  Necrogod  and  Paganizer  among  many  others  and  United  Kingdom's  Dave  Ingrim  better  known  for  Bolt  Thrower  and  Benediction  and  they  play  a  very  old  school  style  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Indulgence Over Abstinence Behind The Obsidian Veil"  which  was  released  by  Metal  Inquisition  Records.

  A  very  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  a  few  seconds  later  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90-93  era  along  with  some  melodies  being  utilized  at  times  and  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  also  very  melodic  and  the  music  is  perfectly  balanced  between  both  U.K  and  Swedish  styles  of  that  era.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  none  of  the  music  has  any  modern  sounds  other  than  the  production  and  the  fast  parts  only  use  semi  blast  beats  and  the  whole  album  also  remains  very  heavy  from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording  with  no  clean  and  soft  parts  except  for  the  last  track  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  synths.

  Echelon  plays  a  style  of  death  metal  that  is  very  straight  forward  and  always  remains heavy  and  sounds  like  a  mixture  of  both  the  2  members  different  styles,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Echelon  are  a  very  great  sounding  straight  forward  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Adversary"  "Cadre"  and  "The  Impious  Of  The  Perverse". 8  out  of  10.

      

Bloodstrike/In Death We Rot/Redefing Darkness Records/2015 CD Review

  Bloodstrike  are  a  band  from  Colorado  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  old  school  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "In  Death  We  Rot"  which  was  released  by  Redefining  Darkness  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  awhile  death  metal  growls  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  along  with  some  screams  also  being  used  at  times  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  Most  of  the  music  is  rooted  in  the  early  90's  Swedish  style  of  death  metal  but  with  more  of  a  modern  production  while  you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  whole  album  remains  heavy  from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording  which  they  also  close  with  a  cover  of  Grave's  "Soulless".

  Bloodstrike  creates  another  recording  that  is  pure  death  metal  and  they  manage  to  keep  everything  very  heavy,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  carnage,  war  and  hate  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Bloodstrike  and  if  you  are  a  fan of  old  school   death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Abomination"  "Cancer  Among  Man" "Maggots  For  A  Whore"  and  "Silent  Killer".  8  out  of  10.    

 

Cryptic Realms/Eve of Fatality/Weed Hunter Records/2015 Demo Review

  Cryptic  Realms  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  Greece, Mexico,  Brazil  and  the  United  States  that  plays  a  very  old  school  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  ep  "Eve  Of  Fatality"  which  was  released  by  Weed  Hunter  Records.

  A  very  raw,  dirty  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  demo  before  adding  in  death  metal  growls  along  with  some  morbid  sounding  melodies  that  have  a  very  heavy  Swedish  influence  to  them  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  true  to  very  old  school  style  of  the  genre  and  the  songs  sound  like  they  could  of  easily  been  recorded  almost  25  years  ago.

  Most  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  mid  paced  direction  while  the  growling  vocals  are  also  very  easy  to  understand  and  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  one  of  the  tracks  also  brings  in  horror  movie  samples  and  as  the  demo  progresses  the  songs  also  start  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Cryptic  Realms  plays  a  style  of  death  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  dirty  in  the  early  90's  style  and  also  ignores  all  of  the  modern  trends  of  the  past  25  years,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  the  undead  and  gore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Cryptic  Realms  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw,  old  school  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Total  Demise"  and  "Eve  Of  Fatality".  8  out  of  10.  

   

The Hell/Welcome To.../Satanath Records/Morbid Shrine Productions/Darzamadicus Records/2015 CD Review

  The  Hell  are  a  band  from  Serbia  that  plays  a  very traditional  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Welcome  To..."  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Satanath  Records,  Morbid  Shrine  Productions  and  Darzamadicus  Records.

  Spoken  word  samples  start  off  the  album  and  after  the  into  the  music  starts  going  into  more  of  a  heavy  death  metal  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  being  used  at  times  as  well  as  some  growling  vocals  that  are  very  easy  to  understand  and  the  music  is  more  rooted  in  the  early  90's  style  while  also  demonstrating  a  great  amount  of  talent  and  skill.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  while  some  songs  also  bring  in  high  pitched  screams  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  finally  added  into  the  music  they  are  very  melodic  while  also  remaining  true  to  an  old  school  style  of  death  metal  and  they  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  heavy  sound  throughout  the  recording.

  The  Hell  plays a  style  of  death  metal  that  is  very  traditional bringing  in  a  90's  style  while  still  sounding  very  up  to  date,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

  In  my  opinion  The  Hell  are  a  very  great  sounding  traditional  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Welcome  To  Our  World"  "High  On  Murder"  "The  Human  Harvest  Fields"  and  "Amen!".  8  out  of  10.

Pedophile Priests/Dark transgression Of The Soul/Metal Scrap Records/2015 CD Review

  Pedophile  Priests  are  a  band  from  Ireland  that  plays  a  very  old  school  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Dark  Transgression  Of  The  Soul"  which  was  released  by  Metal  Scrap  Records.

  Horror  movie  soundtrack  samples  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  fast  and  heavy  musical  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  morbid  sounding  melodies  which  also  leads  to  some  death  metal  growls  making  their  presence  known  in  the  music  and  clean  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  very  dark  and  melodic  sounding  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  bring  in  elements  of  thrash  and  the  songs  are  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  90's  style  of  death  metal  and the  vocals  also  bring  in  angry  shouts  at  times  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  atmospheric  sounds, along  with  synths  and  a  touch  of  technical  metal  and  they  also  bring  in  a short  instrumental  before  making  a  return  back  to  vocal tracks. 

  Pedophile  Priests  plays  a  style  of  death  metal  that  is  very  heavy  and  has  its  roots  in  the  90's  while  also  not  being  afraid  to  experiment  and  try  new  things  which  also  makes  the  songs  have  more  of  an  original  style,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while t he  lyrics  cover  evil,  darkness  and  violence  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Pedophile  Priests  are  a  very  great  and  original  sounding  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Presentment  Of  Evil"  "Crush,  Kill,  Destroy"  and  "The  Kingdom  Hospital".  8  out  of  10.

Monastery Dead/Black Gold Appetive/Symbol Of Domination Productions/Wings of Destruction/Narcoleptica Productions/Grotesque Sounds Productions/2015 CD Review

  Monastery  Dead  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  a  very  old  school  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  2015  album  "Black  Gold  Appetite"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Symbol  of  Domination  Productions,  Wings  Of  Destruction,  Narcoleptica Productions,  and  Grotesque  Sounds  Productions.

  A  very  hard  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  solos  and  leads  being  added  onto  the  recording  a  few  seconds  later  and  on  the  second  track  the  music  starts  to  speed  up  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  death  metal  growls  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  with  the  longest  one  only  being  a  little  bit  over  3  minutes  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  and  as  the  album  progresses  high  pitched  screams  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  album  and one  song  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of   porno  samples  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  along  with  one  of  the  tracks  being instrumental  before  returning  back  to  songs  with  vocals  and  the  last  track  also  brings  in  war  samples.

  Monastery  Dead  plays  a  style  of  death  metal  that  is  very  heavy  and  old  school  in  the  90's  tradition  while  also  having  more  of  a  modern  take  on  the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  anti  religion,  war  and  depression  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Monastery  Dead  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "More  Power"  "Sublimation"  "Black  Gold  Appetite"  and  "Lie".  8  out  of  10.

 

Vader/Future Of The Past II-Hell In The East/Witching Hour Productions 2015 CD Review

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  Vader  which  shows  them  doing  all  cover  versions  with  the  album  being  called  "Future Of The Past II-Hell In The East"  which  was  released  in  2015  by  Witching  Hour  Productions.

  The  album  starts  out  with  a cover  of  Exorcist's  "Ostatni  Diakon" which  is  very  much  in  a  mid  80's  death/thrash  vein  and  very  true  to  the  original  while  also  having  a  touch  of  speed  metal, while  their  cover  of  Ghost's  "Noc  Demona"  which  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  thrash  while  still  having  a  great  amount  of  heaviness and  melody.

  When  they  go  into  their  cover  of  Imperator's  "Necronomicon"  they  start  having  more  of  a  mid  80's  and  early  90's  death  metal  style  and  the  vocals  start  utilizing  more  growls  and  the  cover  of  Krabathor's  "Totalni  Destrukte"  also  brings  in  more  of  the  same  style  but  with  more  of  a  screaming  style  of  vocals.

  Their  cover  of  Markiz  De  Sade's  "Sen  Schizofrenika"  a  song  that  is  rooted  in  80's  thrash  and  hardcover  bringing  in  a  crossover  while  their  cover  of  Merciless  Death's  "The  Beginning  Of  Darkness"  brings  in  a  proto  death  metal  style  before  going  into  a  cover  of  Scarecrow's  "Ostatni  Sakrament"  which  is  done  in  a  very  aggressive  and  brutal  way  which  leads  up  to  their  cover  of   Slashing  Death's  "No Return"  brings  in  German  style  thrash  vocals  and  a  powerful  bass  guitar  sound.  Once  they  go  into  their  cover  of  Slaughter's  "Czas  Apokalipsy"  the  music  starts  having  more  of  a  straightforward  death/thrash  style.

  Their  cover  of  Thanato's  "Necromaniac"  sounds  very  much  like  the  original  version  and  the  song  goes  back  to  the  days  when  death  metal  was  still  more  of  a  thrash  style, while t heir  version  of  Thrasher  Death's  "Czarny Aino"  brings  in  even  more  of  the  pre-death  metal  style  of  the  80's  and  they  close  the  album  with  a  cover  of  Kat's  "Wyrocznia"  which  goes  for  almost  a  pure  style  of  thrash.

  With  this  album  Vader  do  nothing  but  cover's  and  the  music  is  more  rooted  in  death/thrash  than  the  more  striaight  forward  style  of  death  metal  that  is  presented  on  their  original  recordings  and  the  production  sounds  very  professional.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Vader  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Necronomicon" "The  Beginning  Of  Darkness "  'No  Return"  and  "Necromaniac".  8  out  of  10.
