Innsmouth are a band from Denmark that plays a very technical and brutal form of death metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "The Shadow over Innsmouth" which was released by Crime Records.
A very melodic and technical guitar lead starts off the album before adding in a more old school death metal sound along with some growls, screams and blast beats while also keeping around the technical elements and after awhile atmospheric synths are added into certain sections of the recording.
All of the musical instruments on the recording sound very powerful and there are also some spoken word ritualistic parts being utilized at times and some of the songs also bring in small amounts of clean playing and the band focuses more on a 90's style of technical death metal instead of the more modern variation of this genre along with some leads and solos that are more in an 80's shred metal direction while the guttural elements the vocals use at times make the album sound more modern.
Innsmouth go back to the 90's era of technical and brutal death metal and mix it in with the 80's style of shred music as well as bringing in more modern atmospheric and guttural elements to create a sound of t heir own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are based on the writings of H.P Lovecraft.
In my opinion Innsmouth are a very great sounding technical death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dreams Of Drowning" "Under the Pyramids" and "The Shadow Over Insmouth". 8 out of 10.
