Gruesome are a band from the United States that h as been featured before in this zine and plays a Death "Leprosy" era style of death metal as a tribute to the legendary band and this is a review of their 2016 ep "Dimensions Of Horror" which will be released on May 20th by Relapse Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the ep along with some morbid sounding melodies and after a few seconds death metal growls are added onto the recording and a few seconds alter the music goes into a very fast and raw musical direction along with some blast beats and the songs sound like they could of been recorded and released in the mid 80's.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the songs sound like the ghost of Chuck Schuldiner possessed the souls of these musicians and the solos and leads also sound very dark and melodic and some riffs also add in a touch of thrash and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the whole ep also remains very heavy from beginning to ending of the recording.
Gruesome continues the Death tribute of their previous recordings creating another recording that is very much rooted in the old school style of death metal, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness, gore and horror themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Gruesome and if you are a fan of old school death metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Raped By Darkness" and "Seven Doors". 8 out of 10.
