Inside-Project Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

Manu (vocal) : So The band is born in 2004 in a little city called Montbéliard (East of France) we play Thrash-hardcore music,  our current line-up is with me (vocals), Antoine and Léo (backing vocal + guitar), Aurelien (bass) and Félix (drums). We’ve recorded two EPs, and now we release our first album, “A history of violence”!

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

I think, we’re between different kind of music like hardcore metal, Death metal old school or Thrash metal. We like bands such as, Entombed, Sick of it all, Hatesphere and two famous bands in European hardcore scene: Kickback and Arkangel!

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

We’re very influenced by movies, especially gore and horror movies, but not only! So we use to transpose in lyrics, violence, provocation, anger and hate feelings! We talk about torture, murder or fight! The title of this album is a reference to a movie of David Cronenberg A history of violence, ‘cause we like it and I think, the title explains fully the spirit of this album in lyrics and music.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

There’s no real explanation about the band name, like every band we have needed one to start, at the begining, and we really enjoyed the sound of the name “Inside Project”, so we decided to take it!

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

We remembered especially two very nice memories.
First in 2010. We have played to an important festival in France with Motorhead, Gojira and Paradise lost. So it was crazy to play on a big stage, in front of thousand people, and had a chance to talk with these bands after!  Then, in August 2011 we have played with Suicidal Tendencies, it was amazing too!

I guess, in live, we have a dark show, with few lights, an aggressive sound, and an energetic behaviour! We know that you can make your own reputation on stage, so we try to give our best to impress people.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?

Yes, on September we’ll cross Europe to go in Spain, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and obviously France! It’ll be a dream to come in America in the future! If a tour manager read this interview, we are here!

7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of hardcore and metal?

The cd is release since one month, so we don’t have a lot of feedback now, but we have already heard very positive things about this album! We have a complicated relationship with the European hardcore scene, ‘cause we are not a typical hardcore band. We switch between a lot of styles, and for some hardcore fans, we don’t play hardcore, and it is the same with some death metal fans! These guys like to hear the same things every time, but we’re not like that.

8. Are there any other projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?

It’s a full time job! We would like to have side projects, but when you want to spread your music in one band, you need to spend all your energy in this way, without concession!

Maybe in future we’ll have more time for us to experiment other type of music! But not now.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

I guess our music we’ll be more and more far from hardcore influences, and close to thrash metal and noise music. But we have time, now we’re focus on this album, new songs are not for today.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Like I said above, we enjoy Entombed, Hatesphere or Sick of it all! But we are also influenced by bands such as Necro (rap-hardcore) especially for the lyrics, Atari Teenage Riot (electro-hardcore) for the energy, or Agnostic Front for the attitude. In France, Gojira is a model for us, these guys are originals, nice, no pretentious, and it’s an example.

Currently we listen a lot of Electro-hardcore, Death metal and hip-hop too. Maybe you know the DMS crew (Danny Diablo, Necro...), Atari Teenage Riot, Kvelertak, Obituary, Mastodon....It’s very large as you can see.

11. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

For my part, I love movies (Cronenberg, Scorsese, Aja…), Soccer (the real football for European people…ahah) and beers!!! The others have different passions like design, video games, movies too.

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Sorry for my English spoken. As you know, in France we’re not really famous to speak well several languages but I can promise you for the next interview that my english we’ll be perfect!
