Gautama are a band from New Caledonia that plays a mixture of death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "All Is Silence" which was released by Bigsound-Nc.
A very old school thrash metal sound starts off the album and after awhile aggressive vocals and blast beats are added into the music and the band also brings in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can also hear a bit of groove metal in the band s musical sound but done in a more raw fashion.
When guitar solos and leads are added into the music they enhance the old school extreme metal elements that are a huge part of the bands musical sound and after awhile the band starts incorporating more melody into the songs and some of the later tracks also see the band adding in more brutal death metal influences into their sound along with a touch of nu-metal
In certain sections of the recording you can also hear a small amount of clean singing and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and some of the later tracks also see the band adding in a small amount of clean playing on a couple of tracks along with tribal style drumming along with a mixture of male and female vocals before making a return to a heavier direction as well as adding in growling vocals and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length
Gautma create a very interesting sound that combines both old school and modern day thrash together along with the heaviness of death metal and some groove and nu metal elements, the production has a very raw sound while also capturing the sounds of all of the musical instruments while the lyrics cover dark and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Gautama are a very great sounding mixture of death and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ebony" "Black Anvil" "At The Gates" and "All Is Silence". 8 out of 10.
