Swashbuckle are a band from New Jersey that plays a mixture of death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2014 ep "We Hate The Sea" which will be released in August by Get This Right Records.
A very old school thrash metal sound starts off the ep along with some aggressive screams and growls that are closer to early death metal and they also add in blast beats and synths and they also bring in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.
On the second track the music starts getting a lot more heavier with the sound of mid 80's death metal but still a lot more closer to thrash and they also bring in back up gang shouts and the energy of punk rock and crossover and the only thing modern about their sound is the way the music is produced..
Swashbuckle play a very fast and aggressive form of thrash that also has the heaviness, growls and screams of early death metal and they always manage to keep everything sound heavy, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover pirates and humorous themes.
In my opinion Swashbuckle are a very great sounding death/thrash metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Beer Goggles" and "Slaughter Upon International Waters". 8 out of 10.
