Terror Empire are a band from Portugal that has been featured before in this zine and plays an old school mixture of death and thrash metal on this recording and this is a review of their 2017 album "Obscurity Rising" which will be released on September 23rd by Mosher Records.
Soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier thrash metal direction while clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the solos and leads bringing in a very melodic old school style and the music is very heavily rooted in the 80's.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while t he vocals are mostly aggressive thrash screams and screams that also have a melodic edge at times along with some back up gang shouts also being utilized at times and the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody.
Elements of death metal can also be heard at times with the vocals adding in growls along with the songs bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a decent amount of melody and spoken word samples can also be heard briefly and there is also a brief instrumental before returning back to a heavier direction.
On this recording Terror Empire goes for more of an old school thrash metal style while still mixing in elements of death metal at times, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover political themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Terror Empire and if you are a fan of old school death and thrash metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "You'll Never See Us Coming" "Holy Greed" and "New Dictators". 8 out of 10.
