Canker are a band from Spain that has had an album reviewed before in this zine and plays a technical mixture of death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Earthquake" which was released by Xtreem Music.
A very heavy thrash influenced sound starts off the album along with some melodic riffing while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard as well as the vocals being mostly death metal growls.
Most of the music is very heavily rooted in the early 90's while the solos and leads also gives the songs more of a technical feeling and some tracks also mix in a more traditional thrash style along with some riffs also adding in a slight groove metal influence and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Screams along a brief use of synths can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and as the album progresses a small amount of acoustic guitars can be heard while one track brings in spoken word parts and tribal beats which also gives the music more of a shamanistic atmosphere and one track also brings in melodic vocals.
Canker plays a musical style on this recording that is mostly rooted in death metal while also adding in a great amount of thrash influences as well as experimenting with their sound to create something very different, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover death, religion and political themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Canker and if you are a fan of death and thrash metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Whale Hunt" "Biosfear" "Ravenous" and "Inquisition". 8 out of 10.
