ghUSa are a band from France that has been around for a long time and plays a very old school form of death metal and this is a review of their 2015 double album "25 Years of Death Metal" which was released by Great Dane Records.
A very dark and heavy Swedish style death metal sound starts off the compilation along with a decent amount of melody and a few seconds later growls are added and the first track is a cover of Dismember's "Casket Garden" and the solos and leads also remain true to a melodic musical direction.
The original tracks that the band write also stick to a Swedish style of death metal while some songs also bring in a small amount of high pitched screams and throughout the compilation you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a decent amount of blast beats being utilized quite often and as the compilation progresses clean playing can be heard in certain sections of the recording and they also bring in a cover of Grave's "Soulless" .
When the compilation goes into the older stuff from the band the music starts having more of a brutal but still true old school death metal style and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and they also bring in a cover of Benedictions "Violation Domain" and a couple of the later tracks also bring in a small amount of acoustic guitars, synths and spoken word parts while a later song also brings in a brief use of operatic female vocals while towards the end a song with clean singing male vocals is added onto the compilation.
ghUsa plays a very old school and traditional style of death metal and they also bring in a good mixture of new and older material and they also show that they are part afraid to be original at times and they have a sound that has been underrated for years, the production sound s very old school yet professional at the same time while the lyrics cover dark and anti religion themes.
In my opinion ghUsa are a very great sounding old school death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "No God For The Living" "Letter To My Son" "Silence" and "The Wind". 8 out of 10.
