Blacksheep Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
First of all I would like to say hi to you and “TheTrueBringerOfDeathZine” readers. As you probably know, since the start of 2016 we have a new drummer, Herman “Herzu” Heidel and thus we have reformed Blacksheep. Since then we were mainly into rehearsing and adding a new approach to the rhythm parts. There is not much live activity in the summer, we use this time to strengthen the bond between us. We have released a new single, called “Gunsmoke”, that can be watched here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CLabCWK90g. We are currently developing a video for this track.

2.You have a new album coming out later this year, how would you describe
the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it
differ from the album you had released in 2014?
We already started to work on some new material, but I trust is too early to say that there will be a new album this year. In may, we released a new single called “Gunsmoke” and there you can find a hint about the musical direction that we follow. I think that the main difference from the material released in 2014 is the fact that now we are working together to bring out the best from the songs, unlike in 2014 when it was one man’s idea. I think is it very important to collaborate with the right persons and to share mainly the same musical vision, but from different points of view. That’s the main thing that we achieved from the beginning of Blacksheep as a band.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with
the music?
We deal mainly with social and personal issues. To be fair, I never covered this area before, I was not interested to bring out this kind of subjects, but it came naturally when Blacksheep started to take form. Mainly we speak about globalisation, fencing of the individual freedom, lack of opportunities, manipulation of the individuals things that are not recent, but are happening way before we even started to notice them, things that go unseen day by day, but turn out to be very obvious when you take a step back. From here to each individual’s personal drama is just a step and everyone lives it alone in a full crowd since people are mainly focused to pay attention to simple things that distract them daily and gives them false comfort.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Blacksheep"?
I trust that the name speaks for itself, it bears the meaning known to all. I found that suitable for the direction that the band took since the beginning. I found that name funny and meaningful. Ij just came to me, I didn’t do any research, not even to find out if another band already has or had this name, I simply didn’t gave a fuck, I really like this name. J

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also
how would you describe your stage performance?
We really like to be on the stage, I can tell you that. J Every show for us was important and the best at its time. We enjoyed playing at Rockstadt Extreme Fest, Metalhead Meeting Fest, Posada Rock, Rockstadt Club, Question Mark and so on an so forth. We were very fortunate to have the chance to share the stage with great foreign and local bands that we respect. The stage performance is mainly focused on energy, trying to find the most direct connection with the audience, to deliver the message in the strongest and straightforward way.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?
We’ll see abut that when the material will be out. At this moment we are mainly busy rehearsing, writing new songs, prepairing for the autumn ahead. J In the summer there is less activity, since people is mostly interested in spending their holidays. We have a few shows in the autumn and we will complete the list as we go.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received
any interest?
We didn’t payed too much effort finding a label to be honest. We received interest from local promoters and organisers but at this time our main goals is to keep rehearsing, writing new stuff, play the shows, recording new songs and maybe a videoclip. I think the most important thing for us right now is to make us heard (and seen).

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of
death metal?
The feedback that we received was positive, we are happy to see that people still are keen to the oldschool music, the straightforward message, that “rock/metal” attitude of party, booze and rock’n’roll. An interesting facts is that the people from South America are very interested in our music, they really love this combination of rock, heavy metal, hard rock and growled vocals, we received dozens of messages. On local plan is the same, we have a good feedback, people love to express themselves at the concerts on our music, which is I reckon very appropriate for that.
Even though nowadays metal music entered the sphere of shallow consumerism as is treated as a product that is always at hand and there is an questionable affinity for what is most recent in terms of music, there is still a strong interest in things built to last.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these
days that some of the band members are a part of?
I am glad you asked this question. All the guys except me are involved in another projects, with different musical styles J. For example our drummer “Herzu” is playing with his other band Breathelast and they did accomplished a lot (more on http://www.breathelast.com) , Andrei Costan in playing with Psychogod and they released an album called “Destroy to create – Create to destroy”, you can find more about on http://www.psychogod.ro/. But probably the most versatile and more implicated in other projects is Silviu Ruta, our bass player. He is playing with a successful Romanian hip-hop act called Macanache (https://www.facebook.com/MACANACHEINTERZIS/), but also with Shesdead – alternative/psychedelic (https://www.facebook.com/shesdeadromania/) and also a cover band called Fling. (https://www.facebook.com/flingband/). I am not involved with another bands, but I still find that pleasure to compose and record music by myself at home.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
The main thing that we have accomplished musically is that we managed to develop a style of our own and that’s important to us. On short term I see the band recording a diversified material, but with Blacksheep mark all over it.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influenceon your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Really nowadays I listen very much to Spiritual Beggars, Helloween and Scorpions J. As influence I will not refer to a band, but to a “habit” that was very present in the 90’, that almost each death metal album had “that one track” that either was a cover after a heavy metal band played in a death metal style, either a song written different from the rest of the album, with a more melodic approach, mid tempo and so on. That used to be the third or the last track of the album J.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?
I like to travel a lot, to find new places, new food according to the specific of the area. Some sort of culinary tourism, I dare say. And that is leading me to my next hobby that is cooking J. I also like football and wine tasting, or according to the case getting wasted J. And, then is the almighty whisky.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
I would like to thank you for the opportunity to express some of our points of view and to salute all your readers. Thank you guys, you rule!

Pleurisy/Experience The Sacrildge/Vic Records/2016 CD Review

Pleurisy  are  a  band  from  the  Netherlands  that  played  an  old school  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1999  album  "Experience  The  Sacrilege"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  Spetember  by  Vic  Records.

Horror  movie  samples  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavy  and  brutal  musical  direction  along  with  some  screaming  vocals  and  death  metal  growls  and  the  music  also  uses a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  morbid  sounding  melodies  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  style  and  the  songs  also  bring  in a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  of  the tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  classical  guitars  are  brought  onto  an  instrumental  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction.

Pleurisy  played a  style  of  death  metal  that  was  brutal  for  its  time  while  also  displaying  enough  talent  and  skill  which  also gives  the  songs  a  slight  technical  edge,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  hatred,  nihilism  and  Occultism  themes.

In  my opinion  Pleurisy  where  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mission  Transformed"  "Gone  From  The  Sun"  "Witchcraft"  and  "In  Darkness/  Mortification  Of  The  Flesh".  8  out  of  10.

Pestilence/Reflections Of The Mind/Vic Records/2016 Compilation Album Review

A  very  hard  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  morbid  sounding  melodies  and  death  metal  growls  and  the  music  also  gets  very  progressive  at  times  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  soem  tracks  display  a  little  off  the  experimental  sound  that  can  be  heard  on  "Sphere"s.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  songs  also b ring  in a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced and  fast  parts  and  the  music  gets  more  technical  as  the  compilation  progresses  while  some  riffs  also  bring  in  elements  of  jazz  fusion and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful. and  some  guitar  leads  also  bring  in a   touch  of  traditional  metal   and  the  last  track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars.

Pestilence  played  a  style  of  death  metal  that  was  considered  very  technical  for t he  early  90's  while  still  having  more  traditional  elements  of  the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  suffering  and  personal  thoughts.

In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Pestilence  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Reflections  Of  The  Mind"  "Changing  Perspectives"  "Presence  Of  The  Dead"  and  "Omens  Of  Revelations".  8  out  of 10.

Denominate Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
1. We are a progressive death metal band based in Oulu, Finland. Our band was formed in 2009 under the name Encrypted when all of us were still in high school.

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
2. It continues our bands musical evolution more towards the progressive, compared to our debut EP Realms of Confusion. We have experimented more with melody on this new album, while still keeping the pummeling death metal part present. In our music we try to blend old school death metal with modern progressive and technical sounds.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
3. The band's lyrical themes revolve around quite common death metal topics. Death, philosophy, horror etc. I try to integrate my own occult interest into the music,
with metaphors and multiple possibilities of interpretation. Our album continues with the same type of dystopic and apocalyptic themes as our EP did, but this time with
a more planned structure of ideas. Even though some songs like Terrestrial Funeral and Penumbra are thematically and by their plots directly connected with some songs
all the way back to our demos, other songs like Apeirophobia are not completely out of context. I like making lyrics with lots of layers for the listener to discover.

4.originally the band was called 'Encrypted' what was the cause of the name change and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Denominate'?
4. The main reason was other bands called Encrypted and one of them had trademarked the name and threatened us with lawsuits.
It was primarly a name change but our music has evolved too since our last EP. The idea for "Denominate" came from our vocalist Ville where he remembered a word "denominated"
from a book he just read. We decided to shorten it to "Denominate", as it was a name suitable for our situation since its definition is to give a name to something.
We also liked that the word is in imperative, so it is at the same time a kind of an order to name something. Also the new name being in the form of an command is perfect for our somewhat "forced" change of identity.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
5. I’d have to say the most memorable show was 2015 year’s gig at Jalometalli Music Festival. It was kind of a honour to play there because all of us have frequently visited
it over the years and it is here right at our hometown, Oulu. When on stage we try to play and move as energetic as possible. We always try to give a good show that is both nice to listen and look at.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
6. We are currently planning to go on a tour in February - March 2017 with couple other bands. The tour consists four countries, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

7.The new album was released on 'Inverse Records' are you happy with the support they have given you so far?
7. So far, the support from Inverse Records has been good. We have gotten a lot more coverage than we could have hoped to get on our own.
A lot of of webzines and blogs have covered us and so far we have gotten quite a few reviews.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of extreme metal?
8. I don't really know specifically what fans of black metal have thought about our album, but overall the reception has been good. We have gotten reviews from all around the world and so far all of them have been favourable. People have liked that we have very varied material and enjoy the mixing of multiple genres we do.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
9. We plan on progressing more and continue to push the envelope to bring more to the world of death metal. We definetly will continue to experiment more with our music and we don’t plan on standing still when it comes to our musical direction. Also we have been toying with the idea of a concept album for our next release.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
10. Every one in the band has a quite a diverse and one some areas even differentiating music tastes. We draw a lot of influence from the old legendary death metal bands such as Death and Carcass.
Also many progressive death metal acts such as Cynic, Atheist, Gorguts and Demilich have been an influence. From the extreme metal genre black metal has also been an influence on some level.
But apart from the obvious big influences, really everything I listen and experience will have an influence of some kind.
Recently I have been re-listening to some older death metal. Apart from extreme metal I have also been listening to post-rock, folk and progressive rock.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
11. There is really nothing that special what we do outside of our music. Our vocalist Ville likes to read a lot to get inspiration for his lyrical work.
Our drummer Joni takes care of his fitness, so he can play drums without getting out of breath and Eetu, one of our guitarists, has a little side business where he crafts instruments and other music related hardware (you can follow his work at Instagram: @soultrap_777).

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
12. Thank you so much for all of our fans out there for the support, we would be nothing without you. We hope that you guys enjoy our new album when it's released, as much as we do like to hear and read
your opinions and reviews about it so that we can improve both our music and ourselves too. And this time, "Those Who Beheld the End" will be released and distributed as a physical copy over Europe unlike our previous EP. Thank you and keep it blasting!

Coldblood Interview

COLDBLOOD (Brazilian Death Metal)
Line up:
Diego Mercadante – Vox and Guitar
Markus Couttinho – Drums
ArturCirio – Lead Guitars

Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Markus Couttinho: We have just released a new album called "Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil" and we are working on the promotion of this album, scheduling gigs, giving interviews and preparing a new videoclip.

In June you had released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Diego Mercadante: I would say that our sound is robust, aggressive and dramatic to which we could bring the texture of the 90´s without sounding vintage. The first album was made by a total different line up. In the second, in which I was already present and writing songs, we changed the course of the band because we felt that this was what it should be done. We had to improve our techniques and in some moments, extend this to our health by staying out of heavy drugs and everything else that could disturb us. The secret for us to get here is that we didn´t relax, we have kept our studies up to date.

The band has split up a couple of times, what was the cause of the split's and also the decision to reform?

Markus Couttinho: In the past we had no experience with business and there were other priorities, family pressure...but since 2005 we have got back together permanentlyand still with the original line up. We released our third demo "Reincarnating a New Black God" and signed a contract with aMexican label called Onslaught Rec. for the releasing of our first full length "Under the Blade I Die" in 2007, and since then we have never stopped. We changed the line up a couple of times until we got to this one in 2012. Nowadays, we are more experienced and focused on our careers. From 2009 until now, we have released 2 albums, an EP, 2 splits and three tours throughout South America and recorded our first official videoclip in 2015. We have been working hard to recover the lost time.

Your lyrics cover a lot of Satanic and Left Hand Path themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

Diego Mercadante: When I joined Coldblood, Markus and I decided that the band should sound truly dark and satanic and for this we jumped into the theme and ideology. I am not a very partial person and I didn´t begin a quest just as a laboratory. We are the result of our experience and this interferes in what you search, in what you really consider a value and it´s not that easy some times to have it clear on your mind, but when you do, walking against the world makes your heart pulse and Darkness shows you where the real Light is. You´ll be consumed by the most intense Ágape that the world out there won’t ever offer you. Satanism is the spiritual lucidity, all the rest belongs to the Hilicbeeing we are and that wil ldisappear with time.

What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Coldblood'?

Diego Mercadante:We got over a lot of things and had to have a lot of courage to take the band where it is now. Maybe take an attitude in cold blood means to do what it has to be done being right or wrong, and we did it too many times.

What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Markus Couttinho: We did a gig in Brazil called Mega Metal, which was one of our best performances. We had great shows, sharing the stage with Mayhem, Benediction, Master, Asphyx, Funerus, Nervo Chaos and Gräfenstein. I always try to have a performance focused in music and on executing what was played in the album with precision and not in exhibitionism.

Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?

Markus Couttinho: We are talking to our agent to see what could be done. Because of the regular jobs we have we can´t leave at any moment for the tours but we are planning something to Mexico and Europe for the next year.

On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?

MarkusCouttinho:We have been receiving a lot of good reviews of the album coming from Germany, France, Sweden, USA and Belgium. A few are thanking us for releasing an album with a 90’s approach, a rare thing nowadays. We have been receiving a lot of good reviews in Asia too (India, Bangladesh, Indonesia and China) and here in South America

What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Markus Couttinho: Coldblood is my priority but I do play in other bands here in Rio as Grave Desecrator, Into the Cave, Mysteriis and OrdaHunok CARAVATSARAT. Our guitar player ArturCírio has a thrash metal side project called V.U.L.G.A.R. and Diego Mercadante, besides Coldblood, has a DSBM project called Monotomy and plays inMysteriis too. On top of this, Diego and I are beginning a new Black Metal project called Liber. As you can see, we don´t have much to do in life besides music.

Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Diego Mercadante: All of our albums are different, new harmonies, new techniques and in the middle of so many possibilities, we have to keep our essence.

What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Diego Mercadante: We have a lot of obviously classical Death Metal band influences and this is the main thing and it will always be. Particularly, Markus and I like Black Metal and DSBM very much so I believe that, naturally, some of the essence of these styles are incorporated in our sound. In our new album, as much as it may not be so clear, we were in a phase of listening to a lot of King Diamond stuff, so it´s possible to realize some double guitars in the leads. Nowadays, my playlist has a few Morbid Angel, Deicide, King Diamond and Skid Row albums.

Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Markus Couttinho: Thank you for the interview and a Hail to our fans and supporters. Listen to the new album, we will see you on the road.

Evil Priest/Self Titled/Caligari Records/2016 Cassette Review

Evil  Priest  are  a band  from  Peru  that  plays  an  evil  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2016  ep  which  was  released  by  Caligari  Records.

Field  recordings  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  shamanistic  style  chanting  a  few  seconds  later and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  a  heavier  direction  along  with  death  metal  growls  being  added  onto  the  recording  while  the  riffs  bring  in  a very  fast  and  raw  sound  that  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

Most  of  the  music  is  rooted  in  the  mid  80's  style  of  death  metal  and  the  songs  also  bring  in a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  decent  amount  of  morbid  sounding  melodies  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  style  of  death  metal  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Evil  Priest  plays  a  style  of  death  metal  that  is  very  heavy  and  raw  and  goes  back  to  the  mid  80's  to  early  90's  days  of  the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion  Evil  Priest  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  style  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  cassette.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Great  Snake"  and  "Evil  Priest".  8  out  of  10.

Broken Brain Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Broken Brain was formed in Valencia (Spain) around september 2007, even though we have been playing together in different bands since 2002/03. We kind of got back together, the four founding members so to speak, with just metal as our common influence.

2.How would you describe your musical sound?
We are at some point between Thrash and Death metal, with some hardcorish approach. Raw and old school oriented.

3.The band has been around since 2007 but so far has only released one demo, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during this time period?
Lets say the band wasnt too active in the early days. Re-taking the band took some time, that plus personal issues, working, etc. It was around 2010 when we started to put more time and effort into the band, plus some gigs locally.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Mainly Horror themes, from the fiction or real life.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Broken Brain'?
We had several options for the name of the band, most of them were discarded because they were too hilarious, Broken Brain stood as the solid one from the list, and the inspiration for that one came from the legendary Punk band (Eskorbuto), theres a song called Cerebros Destruidos/Destroyed Brains.
Besides that, sounds metal, yet sounds hardcore, so we all agreed.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We recently played one of our bests shows in terms of sound/attendace/equipment. We played this last June with Reincarnation (Brutal Death,Spain) and Vaginal Kebab (Goregrind, Spain). The bands were amazing at stage, and we had an amazing show as well.
Usually people respond very good in case they never heard of us, I would describe our sound live as Loud and Raw. Our vocalist can get really wild, if he gets a chance to get into the pit, he will we there!

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Due to band members work outside the band, we wont take any gig until september.
After that we will continue playing live locally as much as we can.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death and thrash metal?
Quite low due to minimal/non-existent promoting outside Spain. Looking forward to change this now that we are working with Sepulchral Silence for the digital distribution worldwide.

9.When can we expect new material and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We are actually working with Base Records to remaster/re-release our demo (2014), besides that, we already have a decent amount of material.
Musically, pretty much nothing would change, after so many years playing together, music comes very naturally.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Mario (Guitars): Early Sepultura, Death, Slayer, Obituary, Biohazard. I usually listen to a lot of Swedish Death Metal.
Jose (Drums): Mostly influenced by classic 80s classic bands like Helloween, Maiden, Anthrax, Metallica, SOD...
Vicent (Vocals): Punk, Hardcore, Grindcore, Thrash. Nowadays from Terror to Spasm.
Victor (Bass): My main influences would be Venom, Sodom, Death. Nowadays, Mastodon, Electric Wizard, Neurosis, etc

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
Victor: Old Horror movies, (Hammer), (Amicus).
Jose: History, Sword fighting.
Mario: Lovecraft, old school shooters.
Vicent: Politics.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
In no time we will have enough material to release our 1st Full length, stay in touch through our Facebook for news(https://www.facebook.com/BrokenBrainValencia)  and check Sepulchral Silence Records for the digital distribution of our music. Besides, our demo will be remastered and re-released in physical format very soon.
Keep it Broken!

Moss Upon The Skull Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Well, we've just recently released a four song EP entitled 'The Scourge of Ages' and are promoting it as much as we can. Enough songs are ready for a full length too, which we hope to record late 2016, early 2017.

2.So far you have released an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

Just for the record, we've already released a 7 inch in 2014 called 'Imperial Summoning', so the EP isn't our first effort. The new EP further elaborates on the work that was presented on the 7 inch, which I would describe as death metal with the natural sound qualities of 70's classic rock and prog bands, including a narrative songwriting approach, conveniently summarized as organic dissident death metal.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Lyrical themes often deal with the spiritual or philosophical side of existence and more specifically the aspect of decay, to which everything we know in this universe is subject. Sources of inspiration range from everyday events to the merciless laws of nature.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Moss Upon The Skull'?

We found a mention of the phrase in a recipe for a 17th century healing potion, derived from this moss that grew on the skulls of unburied men. It suits the obscure, decay oriented, yet natural, organic approach that we apply in the music we make.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Most notable are the performances we did opening for Incantation in Deinze and Stargazer in Antwerp. Our stage performance can above all be described as no nonsense; no ornamental stage props, no visuals, it's all about the music.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We love to play live but no shows are planned in the immediate future, as we are facing some line-up issues and are currently down to a three piece. However, we are thinking about all potential solutions to cope with the situation in the short term, in order to start playing live shows again.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Several labels were contacted, but no success for now. We hope to release The Scourge of Ages on a physical medium at some point, but without the support of a label it is unlikely that we will release something physical as long as we cannot promote it with live shows. That's another reason why we want to get back on stage as soon as possible.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of progressive death metal?

Overall pretty good actually, we are sending out promo mails and mostly get positive feedback, like from you, so that's gratifying of course, since we put a lot of time and effort into this band. We're not specifically aiming towards fans of progressive metal; we believe all fans of metal in general will find something to like in our music.

9.Are any of the band members currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?

Jef (guitar) and Jense (drums) are involved with a funeral doom project called Dwaellicht, which draws from the Finnish/British doom tradition, but I was also greatly inspired by Mournful Congregation from Australia when I started this project. You can find us on the usual social media. I would like to release some new material late 2016, early 2017.

10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

There is enough material written already for a full length, which we hope to record late 2016. I think that the approach to writing will remain the same, but hope to improve still on the level of songwriting and production. We try to capture a natural, live feel, while maintaining a certain obscurity and aggressiveness.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Classic rock, prog rock and heavy metal from the 70's have had a huge influence on our sound and songwriting. But also early 90's black and death metal have made their mark on our music. Bands ranging from Rainbow to Suffocation, or Magma to Ved Buens Ende.

Currently, I'm listening to a lot of 70's electronics like Eno and Fripp or Jean Michel Jarre, Burzum gets constant rotation, a lot of Abigor lately as well as early Gorguts.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

Several people in the band have a family which of course takes up much of their spare time. Personally, in the few moments where I am not working on music or working my day job, I like to work in the garden and grow herbs and vegetables, I like to catch up on reading and I play some classic video games on a very modest level just to relax.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thanks for the interview and your support! Only death is real!

Trauma Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Hi, we are currently in the campaign Trauma latest release, that album "Invisible Reality", which 03.06.2016 had its official premiere on the market, thanks to Deformeathing rec. This is a reissue of the first material that we recorded under the name Trauma in May 1992. Originally it was officially released in 1993, effort Loud Out rec / Morbid Noizz prod. and received a lot of favorable reviews in many European magazines such as Close UP, Metal Hammer, Decibels Storm, Aartschock etc. I wonder how the years will be received this stuff because in my opinion is still valid and interesting. At the moment, as you can see the priority is to promote the new release and you focus all of our attention at this point.

2.Your last full length was released 3 years ago, how would you describe the musical style of the current music?

We are a mature band and we remain in constant battle for almost three decades. The development of our music takes place in a natural way, without establishing in advance what will be the final effect of the work on each of the next album. Trauma many years has developed its own character and style. On the basis of years we put our musical structures which can be heard on albums with the logo of Trauma. From the beginning, we are fascinated by death metal and this is the basis from which everything begins. We are not afraid of new challenges and transpose our soil influences from other varieties of metal and even beyond. For us the most important thing is to create music which finally kicking ass and sounded coherent. I am anxious to board traumas have considerable emotional and sounded interesting, and surprisingly professional. Welcome to the bandcamp Trauma and you will see what I mean. It is there to listen to more than 10 releases, which create over the 28 years of the band.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects and subjects that you have explored over the years with your music?

Each text is something individual and writing about all the subjects at the same time does not make sense to me. I refer interested and feel at the same time to visit the official website of Trauma, where all the texts and you can read them without a problem at the same time listening to the individual tracks on bandcampie and then the text will not be divorced from the context.

4.Originally the band was known as 'Thanatos' then 'Detox Mansion' before settling on the current name, what was the cause of the name changes and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Trauma'?

From May 1988 years we was exist as Thanatos and under this banner we made two great demos, which allowed us to appear on the underground scene, but at that time his greatest triumphs was referring Dutch Thanatos. From our perspective, there was no point continue to operate under the same banner, because everywhere we associated with the Dutch. We wanted to act on its own, so we abandoned definitely the sign of Thanatos. Long could not decide on a new name and Detox Mansion was only a proposal. Finally, we decided on it, but the information leaked and as it turns out it was enough to be remembered about this today. In May, 1992 we changed our name to Trauma under the influence of "The Trauma" with sensational plate group Pestilence "Consuming Impulse". This album at that time we are very inspired and probably why we decided to use the name Trauma.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Difficult question because we played a lot of great concerts over the years. We played both on the big summer festivals and small clubs, squeezing is often the scene of the surface of the bar hehe. I think, however. That's not a prestigious gig in good company, or one with high gauze musicians are a guarantee of a successful concert. This is up maniax who roll bloody battle at the scene, giving it everything. The climate, the atmosphere and agreeing fans is the most important element during each concert.

You ask about our image? Hm ... we are on this issue traditionalists and remind dress Tolkien's creatures, do not use a corpse-paintu, because I feel that bad for the complexion :) For me, music is always top priority and not dressing up someone in there.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

In June we played well as a series of concerts promoting this release but that we now have Euro 2016 in France to sit in front of TV as a large part of Europeans watching the struggling football teams. After the holidays are resuming concerts of the "Invisible Reality Tour 2016" to October, we have already booked a concert.

7.A year ago you where a part of a split with 'Offence', what are your thoughts on the other band that had participted on the album?

This is a very solid band with whom we shared the stage a few times, we know each other for several years and we have a good relationship. I like their simple message and music in which I hear the passion for metal, which is probably the most important issue in the music-making. The truth is that if Offensce was a weak team would not be the split in this form.

8.The band has been around for at least 3 decades, what is it that motivates you to keep going after all of these years?

In fact, it is a long time and you can not hide it. Sometimes he is in disbelief how fast the time flew. We play non-stop and never even suspended operations even for a moment. In this context, it is almost a feat hehe. I could now speak incredible things bleblebleble but really still like to play together sample, or concerts, to get away from the daily routine, responsibilities, and sometimes the problems that can sometimes overwhelm anyone. There is not here any philosophy or perhaps a passion for music it is. Anyway, we are in good shape and stagger forward to new challenges.

9.Recently you 1991 and 1992 promo's and demo's where re-issued as a single album, what are your thoughts on the final product?

I am absolutely satisfied primarily from the fact that the re-release of "Invisible Reality" and forms prepared by Deformeathing prod .. This time everything has been done according to our guidelines and views. We felt the full support of publishers and most importantly full of confidence. The original 1993 edition was not without errors, material besides appeared on a tape recorder. I'm glad if this was not the oldest material Trauma, lived to see the reissue, it is better visuals and bonuses. I personally keep fun in the hands of great Cd released and I admit that I look forward also to the limited, exclusive release in a few days, and also on cassette and vinyl, which will appear on the market in the fall, also with the logo Deformeathig prod.

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?

It is never so that your music will satisfy the tastes of the whole population maniax the world. It just does not happen in the case of each team. Generally, however, the music Trauma is taken extremely positive and even with a large dose of enthusiasm. Better yet convinced of the value of Trauma listening to our music, not the words that I could on it now speak and so I refer you once again to bandcamp Trauma.

11.When can we expect new music and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We have no pressure from the new album and it gives us advisable in such a situation, comfort. When it is luck and the desire to create, in effect, and good music. Making material strength never goes well enough. Therefore, we beware of cold and calculating rutyniarstwa that kill in my opinion, spontaneous energy and drowns instinct creating muse at a high level. So for calm, I will add that the successor "Karma Obscura" is created for a long time and the lion's share of the new album is ready. However, it will record when the material is 100% complete. The disc is formed in a natural process and nothing is going to accelerate to just not screw up the good work we have done so far.

As I see music Trauma in the future? I have not the slightest idea, and I want to stay that way. Everything depends on what the future holds and how imprinting its mark on all of us.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I like a lot of things, different style and I'm all in all a very open man, not just musically. For many years, I also played with the drummer in the band Trauma Lafayn, who presented completely different style than our native formation and gave us a lot of satisfaction. In compiling my project I have plenty of my own, have not yet finished but I hope that one day will show it to the world. What inspires me today? Designates one team because tomorrow will probably be a different band. We all complain about the lack of new inspiration but I'm still finds plenty of fantastic metal music, and more. I grew up on the old Slayer and Metallica, and to this day I love Morbid Angel, Gorefest, Vader, Nile, Immolation, Vital Remains, Hate Eternal and Deicide and Suffocation. I loved Nevermore, At The Gates, Dissection and a whole lot of Swedish meat. I could go on and on. All these bands and, of course, many other still inspire me.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?

Besides the music is a little computer graphics. This is my second passion, so that also in some way fulfill. Designing album covers, posters, sometimes merch. I'm not a professional, and everything I do in this matter is formed for the purpose of Trauma. Sometimes I like to boil too but I would not call this class passion. He is interested in history but also almost exclusively in the second world war.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

I wanted to say just one thing - support the underground because only through your interest it works. Stay traumatized !!!!

In  my  opinion  Rotting  Obscene  are  a  very  great  sounding  technical  and  brutal  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Audient  Void"  "Nightmares  Of  The  Forlorn"  "Absence  Of  Light"  and  "Destroying  Divinity".  8  out  of  10.

Archetype/Mission/2016 Full Length Review

Archetype  are  a  band  from  Montreal,  Quebec,  Canada  that  plays  a  progressive  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016  album  "Mission".

Distorted  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  along  with  some  grim  screams  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  also  get  mixed  with  death  metal  growls  while  the solos  and  leads  are  done  in a  very  melodic  style  and  you  can  also  hear  elements of  German  thrash in  the  vocals.

At  times  the  music  can  be  very  technical  and  progressive  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  faster  sections  also  bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  a  couple  of tracks  also  brings  in  power metal  vocals  that  are  a  little  bit  out  of  key  and  as  the  album  progresses  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while t he  last  track  brings  in  elements  of  classical  music.

Archetype  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  thrash  and  death  metal  and  also  takes  them  into  more  of  a  progressive  and  technical  direction  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  adn  real  lise  themes.

In  my  opinion  Archetype  are  a  very  great  sounding  progressive  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Welcome"  "Fondation"  and  "Glimpse".  8  out  of  10.

Grace Disgraced/Lasting Afterdeaths/Razed Soul Productions/2016 CD Review

Grace  Disgraced  are a band  from  Russia  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  technical  and  progressive  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Lasting  Afterdeaths"  which  was  released  by  Razed  Soul  Productions.

A  very  heavy  and  old  school  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic guitar  leads being  added  onto  the  recording  a  few  seconds  later  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  after  awhile  death  metal  growls  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  along  with  some  progressive  elements.

At  times  the  music  can  be  very  technical  while  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  90's  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have a  very powerful  sound  to  them  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  clean  guitars  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  songs.

Grace  Disgraced plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  the  90's  technical  and  progressive era  of  the  material  Death  released  in  that  time  period,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  humanity,  philosophy  and  suffering  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Grace  Disgraced  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of   technical  and  progressive  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Grave  Among  The  Stars"  "The  Mute"  and  "What  Hide  The  Woods  Of  Gevaudan".  8  out  of  10.
