Pleurisy are a band from the Netherlands that played an old school form of death metal and this is a review of their 1999 album "Experience The Sacrilege" which will be re-issued in Spetember by Vic Records.
Horror movie samples start off the album before going into more of a heavy and brutal musical direction along with some screaming vocals and death metal growls and the music also uses a decent amount of blast beats and morbid sounding melodies and all of the musical instruments sound very powerful.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic style and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and some songs also bring in a small amount of clean playing and classical guitars are brought onto an instrumental before returning back to a heavier direction.
Pleurisy played a style of death metal that was brutal for its time while also displaying enough talent and skill which also gives the songs a slight technical edge, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover hatred, nihilism and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Pleurisy where a very great sounding old school death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mission Transformed" "Gone From The Sun" "Witchcraft" and "In Darkness/ Mortification Of The Flesh". 8 out of 10.
