Disaffected are a band from Portugal that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a very progressive form of death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "The Trinity Threshold" which was released by Chaosphere Recordings.
A very heavy and melodic sound starts off the album along with some prog elements while the vocals are mostly death metal growls as well as some screams also being used at times and spoken word parts are also added into certain sections of the recording and all of the musical isntruments have a very powerful sound to t hem.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard while some atmospheric synths can also be heard in the background on some of the tracks and clean male and female vocals can also be heard briefly along with the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some tracks also bringing in whispered vocals and as the album progresses the music starts mixing in more avant garde elements and acoustic guitars in a few songs, some of t he tracks a re also long and epic in length.
On this recording Disaffected move away from a death/thrash style and go into more of an avant garde and progressive death metal direction, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Gnosticism, Hermeticism, Ancient Aliens and Metaphysical themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Disaffected and if you are a fan of progressive death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Waters Of Saleph" "Pi Alpha Centurian" "The Moon, The Eagle and The Golden Apple" and "Portico". 8 out of 10.
