Phylactery are a band from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada that plays an old school mixture of death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Necromancy Enthroned" which will be released in August by Unspeakable Axe Records.
A very heavy 80's influenced thrash sound starts off the album along with some blast beats a few seconds later and a few seconds later early death metal style screams are added onto the recording and the music also invokes a very dark and raw atmosphere and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording.
A decent amount of melody can be heard in the guitar riffing and the songs sound like they could of easily been recorded and released 30 years ago and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads also remain very true to a very old school yet extreme style and at times the riffs and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and the music always remains very heavy.
Phylactery plays a musical style that goes back to the mid 80's era of the death and thrash metal genres, the production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover Undeath, Necromancy and Plagues themes.
In my opinion Phylactery are a very great sounding old school mixture of death and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Risen Restless Dead" "Morbid Existence" "Enslaved By The Dawn" and "Unholy Empire". 8 out of 10.
