Gholem are a band from Mexico that plays an old school form of death metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 album "Matter Without Form, Matter Without Soul".
A very heavy yet melodic sound starts off the album and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and after awhile death metal growls a re added onto the recording and the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's along with some solos and leads that are also done in an old school fashion.
Spoken word parts can be heard in certain sections of the recording and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some of t he riffs also add in a touch of thrash along with all of the songs sound like they could of easily been recorded and released in the early 90's and there is also a brief use of clean playing.
Gholem plays a style of death metal that is very heavily rooted in the early 90's with a touch of thrash, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover medieval themes.
In my opinion Gholem are a very great sounding old school death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hearts And Souls" "Eleventh Hour" "Red Horizon" and "Risk And Fall". 8 out of 10.
