Khatano Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
1..Hallo for all !!!! We are KHATANO and we come from the Czech Republic from the city of Ostrava. The group was founded in 2012. Three people wanted to play and create music in the composition of (Peter-Vocal, Perry-Guitar and Milaňo-drums).. We started To play Mix Hardcore-death metal but we missed a bass guitar .. After finding a bass guy we found our good friend Harry and we were complete..We created songs differently we mixed them we made arrangements until 8 songs were made .. In 2013 in the spring We recorded a CD and eventually released a CD Under the name "Against this system"..Slowly we started to perform concerts in the Republic ... CDs we promoted ourselves .. In 2014 we accepted a new guitarist named Kubish..The band made a few changes and it is not worth To disassemble ... Today's compilation is Peter-Vocal, Perry-guitar, Kubish-guitar, Mirrek-basa and Mark-drums ...

2.So far you have released a demo and a split, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?
2 .. The record should be originally as a (demo recording ).. in the final (demo- recording) was released as CD..Cd we released ourselves .. we have produced 100 cd .. Audio cd ?  I do not know how to describe it .. maybe only that We did maxium ... CD we recorded in a studio in Ostrava, which owns a friend .. then the studio had in basemant.. Guitar player recorded guitars through an amplifier Krank..Sound of guitar I think we have succeeded in certain boundaries ... Standing Mix and final mastering we did over sound cards over computeros ... And as for Kundorez .. it's the work of two people..and the same procedure as Khatano ...

3.The band has been around since 2012 but has only put out 2 releases, can you tell us a little bit more about the long wait in between releases?

3.. As I say ... First we released it ourself and later in 2015 my friend Marian sent me some label records and there was Satanth records, where we sent the recording and Alexey liked it and wanted to release it ... I sent him such a CD Kundorez .. Alexey from satanath records got the idea that it will be a split of two Czech groups and will bear the name of "Czech madness" ... The cd has also done, according to your ... so in 2013 version of the "Against this system" The version of "Czech madness" was published in 2017 ....

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
4 .. lyrics in Khatano are a lot against politics and against all the fucking bastards what they do evil on the ground .. maybe song kill has a subtext relationship man and woman hate among the people ... The topics of my text are mostly pissed ... song black "The doves" is about how wrong we are here and what we have the rights to a plain life ...And Kundorez are The lyrics are in Czech and they are a massive and perverse haaaaa ..... The last song hell .. this is my fantasy one leg you end up in Hell ....: D ....

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Khatano'?
5..Khatano has no meaning, the title was created in the pectis room from the word katana and subsequently we changed it to katano and in the finale we gave khatano.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

6..I remember our first concert, which was not far from Ostrava ... The power of those concerts was not ... our entire existence we played about 25 concerts ... our best concert was Harry fest open ... Grabo fest in Karviná .. else Czech metal scene is quite good .... but we would like to play abroad ... we have not played outside the Czech Republic .....

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
7..Plans for the future we have such that we want to make a new CD we have prepared 9 new songs to studio... and concerts and we do not have plans for ... Perhaps I may play next year in Estonia on one metal festival....

8.Recently you where a part of a split with 'Kundorez', what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on the recording?
8..The kundorez group is more of a project than my friend Marian, who asked me to make music for 9 songs, which are cover versions from famous artists .. In Kunorez are just two people and that's me and Marian .... I play in Kundorez On guitar and in khatano sing ...

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal and hardcore?
9..Some responses were positive and some were negative ... in one Czech fanzine we got a lot of criticism no and in a foreign country it praised ..... Otherwise we have a good base in the Ostrava region ..... but in the world probably not

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
10..In khatano, nobody has any side project besides me .. the drummer Marek has different activities with bands and musicians from different genre .... Now I know a bass guessed a new friend who played in the band "Have the Munchies" from Ostrava..khatano is composed Of the musicians who had previously played in metal bands ...

11.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
11..A good question..haaa ... I guess the time will never come that I will make money with the music .. it's just a good hobby .....

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
12..I think we are listening to a wide range of music. I've grown up on metal for 90 years ... like, for example, a Machine Head,Biohazard, Napalm Death ... and khatano guys are the same as me. Besides our drummer, who is younger, so he listens to another music ... we like punk, ska, regge, and more more music ....

13.What are some of your non musical interests?

13..I can not write what we do not like and what we have ... maybe only that the Czech commercial music is totally shit ... they cherish foreign melodies and they will add a Czech text to the song and they will make a hit ... it's a total mess ... .

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
14..The last thing is that I thank you for the interview ... and we greet all our fans ..Ave satanas...urghhhhh....Life for metal forever.....cheerssss.....show must go on muther fucker......

So here you write black on white .. hope you understand? ... where are you from?

V.: ОБРІЙ (Obrij) was formed back in 2013 in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. The members of the band also play in other bands like THE SYMBIOZ, DISPLEASE, SKRUTA, OMNIVERSE, SOLUREST. Since then we had a few line-up changes, current line-up was formed in spring of 2018. Current line-up is: Mykola - vocals, Vasyl - guitars (that's me, ha-ha), Ivan - guitars, Zoltan - bass and Petro - drums. Only Mykola and me are left from the first OBRIJ line-up.

2.So far you have released an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
V.: I would describe this as a mix of a numerous influences: a bit of hardcore, a bit of metalcore (as it was back in the 90s, not the modern shittycore) and a large dose of European death metal. I think that our style can be described as "groovy death'n'roll".

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
V.: We sing about different topics. Themes can be taken from our personal experience or from history. We have one song about Pol Pot regime and our new release will be about the horrors of Stalinism. These lyrics will have a slight dystopian feeling (cheers to Mr.Orwell).

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Obrij'?
V.: As I mentioned before, the word OBRIJ means "horizon". It's about the new horizons, we have to discover in our life. As me and Mykola (our singer) had previously played only hardcore punk and grindcore, we are discovering metal  Well, if serious, I am a huge fan of metal music and I always wanted to play some. So, it looks like now I have the opportunity.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
V.: We haven't played a lot of shows with OBRIJ, so all of them were unique. As for me, I would mention our performance at Uzhhorod's KRUK Fest. It was our first show after the line-up change. I would like to describe our performances as "heavy as hell" but I'm not sure if I can do so  We don't play fast, so at least we're trying to create a heavy and hypnotizing atmosphere at out shows.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
V.: It would be great, but now we would like to record some new stuff. It's our priority now. Shows? Maybe later.

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about 'Trismus Records'?
V.: It's mostly hardcore punk/grindcore/metal label formed by Mykola and me. We have a few wuite interesting releases, you chould check out.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?
V.: We received various opinions about our music. Most of them are good, I mean it seems that people like our stuff. But we also had a few negative reviews. Well, for some guys we were not enough "metal". But I hope that they will enjoy our next release. It will have a bit heavier sound.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
V.: Now we have only one active project besides OBRIJ. It's THE SYMBIOZ. We play hardcore punk with strong metal influence. It can remind you bands like WOLFBRIGADE, TRAGEDY, ICTUS e.t.c. Our other project - SKRUTA is currently inactive. We used to play some fast and brutal oldschool grindcore influenced by INSECT WARFARE, WORMROT, NAPALM DEATH and TERRORIZER.
Also you should check the new album of our lead guitarist's band SOULREST. It's called IN SPITE. They play progressive death metal and if you like bands like PESTILENCE, you should check them. Few songs are available on their bandcamp. Also you should check their first album PATALOGICAL PROCESSES. As for me, it's a masterpiece.
Our drummer also plays not only in OBRIJ. If you like some experimental/progressive metal, check out OMNIVERSE. Petro playes guitar in that band.

10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
V.: It's a tough question. As for now we plan to record a single and an EP. We had some changes in our line-up, so the style will change a bit. I think we'll move towards more dark and heavy sound and more complicated song structures.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
V.: We were influenced by European death metal acts like BOLT THROWER, ASPHIX, MORGOTH, BENEDICTION and doom metal bands like PARADISE LOST, early TIAMAT e.t.c. Also, don't underestimate the influence of crust bands like AXEGRINDER, AMEBIX, MISERY, EXTINCTION OF MANKIND and others. Nowadays I listen to different bands, mostly to those that I have mentioned in this interview. Also I like grindcore and Swedish punk rock. Well, I love Swedish bands in general. No matter what style they play, they do it in their own unique way.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?
V.: My main non-musical hobby is horror. I'm a fan of horror literature and horror movies, I even write some creepy stories myself. Some of them were included in Ukrainian horror anthologies. My favourite authors are Richard Laymon, Csáth Géza, Jack Ketchum, Bentley Little, Clive Barker, Robert Bloch and many others.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
V.: I would like to thank you and to all the readers of your zine for the interest in our band! Stay metal! Cheers from Ukraine!

Reputdeath Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Hi mate! We’re just finish rehearsal some new song for our third demo and also the recording process will start early of November, we hope our third demo will unleash in the end of 2017 or maybe in January 2018.

2.How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recent demo?
Just dirty-raw and ugly of Old School Death Metal. Nothing less! We loved all the “demo-sound” feel that coming from the late 80’s and early 90’ bands. The unbalanced-structure, raw, and not to complex sound production really got us. We got D.Gore from Burial Grave on the “mixing-dance machine” to make our recording sounded more too primitive and raw production and we have a lot of fun in the studio to record this demo.

3.Your lyrics cover a lot of horror movie themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?'
Generally, all of REPUTDEATH members are obsessed by the old-horror, zombie and gore movies.  Maybe some people out there think, this topic are really bored but it’s not for us. We’re more comfortable to write a song that based in our imagination that embalmed from the G.A Romero, Tom Savini, Lucio Fulci and Italian horror films.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Reputdeath'?
Firstly, it’s just a word play by our vocalist to name our band as REPUTDEATH. In English, “REPUT” are the same words/meaning of “Rot”, it’s word from ours language. Sam, our vocalist firstly put the name “ROTDEATH” as the band name and draw a band logo similar to the “classic” ENTOMBED” logo in the rotten pieces of paper.  Ha! We used this logo in our first demo and we got some critics/review  that our music not be like Swedish Death Metal. Ha! Fvck yeah! We’re never try to play the Swedish Death Metal.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We can recall how many times we already festering and decaying onto the stage, seem our place it’s really hard for someone to organize a gig, a lot of Hardcore/Punk been held but when come to Metal it’s a little by. We have our first show in 2013 during Infernal Curse “The Awakening Of Damned” tour at Kota Kota Kinabalu, this is the time when we’re really scratched to figure out our live performances and we received a lot good response after that show. And it’s really hard for me to explain how stage performance for REPUTDEATH , seem you need to catch them alive and listen too it’s and we always believe the good music that you put in your release must be equal with your live performance, it’s need more better sometimes and I’m simply can say we just nailed and slaughtered on the stage with our horror and dirty tones.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We got an offer to crawled from our places before, but no tour in planning right now, seem we’re heavily trap with our work-job-family or other things. We’ll ready to festering and rotting onstage again this coming August of 2017, during Sabah Deathfest #4 and it’s our latest live-mangel this years.

7.The demo was released on Chickenshit R.E.K.O.D'. can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
Chickenshit Rekod are the label that I’ve run. More focused on tape releases and paying devotions of Old school Death Metal sound in terms more ugly and dirty ways. It’s just a small low-budget label records that try to give some deadhead out here the real taste or feeling from the old primitive era of Death Metal. And you already can configure out when you listen up to REPUTDEATH, what kind of sound that the label are obsessed.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?
We received many good response from the outside than in our own place. Some of them say it’s just remember them to their old good days digging up some old classic demos. And we numerous got critics because the tones of guitar from our latest demo are more sounded like “Swedish-chainsaw of HM-2”. Ha! Ha! But we’re totally thankful for the all good response from the webzine, fanzine, Death Metal maniac and the Death Metal-underground scenes.

9.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We never think what gonna happen in future, the future always keep their secret. I also can say, REPUTDEATH probably didn’t have any idea to release a full length album because when we start our band back then, we’re already set what we gonna play and what the band goal or direction that we’ll achieve . We’re a band that loved so much to the rotten sound and feel from a demo. We’re just a “demo-band”, nothing high to expected and we never have any idea to release a full length album.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
We’re really dig all the AUTOPSY, NIHILIST and IMPETIGO sound. Certainly we’re don’t hide what the real music can be inspired to us when me start the band back then. At least we try to embalmed all the raw tunes of Death Metal into our song. Your definitely spot that our song didn’t have any solo guitar on the song, we try to make it’s more simple and straight forward structure without fvcking technical! Recently, there a lot of good and putrid Death Metal band rise up around the Death Metal Underground scenes, some of them are Cryptworm, Rest, Rotted, Disembowel etc. It’s really good to dig all the latest demo tape around the scenes and listening and do a “air” head-banging alone in your room like a mad man. Ha!

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
We’re always hang out with other deadhead around our places, have a good drinks and talk something new arise from our local or abroad scenes. Re-watching some old good classic horror, zombie or gore movies and playing football in the weekends and listen up some good Hardcore/Crust Punk music will accompany us.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Thanks for the never-ended support to us, we’ll keep your updated for the latest information or news regarding the band activity. And for those missed out our latest demo tape release, you can go to our bandcamp and listen up this raw and ugly tunes of old death and it’s available for fully stream and download.  Praise the horror and worship “Autopsy”!

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and when  the  music  speeds  up  a great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  grooves  and  melodies  at  times  and  the  music  always  remains  very  heavy.

Planet  Eater  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  modern  thrash  and  mixes  it  in  with  the  heaviness  of  death  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

In  my  opinion  Planet  Eater  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Boats"  "Lies  Evolution"  "A  Fault  To  Fix"  and  "Blackness  From  The  Stars".  8  out  of  10.

Reputdeath/Demo II/Chickenshit R.e.k.o.d/2016 Demo Review

Reputdeath  are  a  band  from  Malaysia  that  plays  a  very  old  school  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  2016  demo  which  was  released  by  Chickenshit  R.e.k.o.d.

Horror  movie  samples  start  off  the  demo  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  melodies  at  times  and  after  awhile  death  metal  growls  start  to  make  their  presence  known  along  with  some  blast  beats  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's.

A  lot  of  the  music  sounds  like  it  could  of  easily  been  recorded  and  released  more  than  25  years  ago  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  horror  movie  samples  also  return  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  and  none  of t h  songs  ever  use  any  solos  and  leads  while  also  always  remaining  heavy.

Reputdeath  plays  a  style  of  death  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  90's,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  gore,  horror and  zombie  movie  themes.

In  my  opinion  Reputdeath  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Corpse  Of  The  Dead"  and  "The  Graverobber".  8  out  of  10.

Ingurgitating Oblivion/Vision Wallows In Symphonies Of Light/Willowtip Records/2017 CD Review

Ingurgitating  Oblivion  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  dark  and  brutal  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Vision  Wallows  In Symphonies  Of  Light"  which  was  released  by  Willowtip Records.

Atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  deep  death  metal  growls  and  the  music  also  gets  very  technical  at  times  along  with  all  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

High  pitched  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  traditional  death  metal  style  and  the  music  also  gets  very  avant  garde  and  experimental  at  times  along  with  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  samples  and  some  songs also  ad  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  jazz  elements  and  one  track  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  pianos.

On  this  recording  Ingurgitating  Oblivion  takes  their  brutal  style  of  death  metal  into  more of  an  avant  garde  direction,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ingurgitating  Oblivion  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  either  avant  garde  or  brutal  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Amid  The  Offal,  Abide  With  Me"  and  "Vision  Wallows  In Symphonies  Of  Light",  8  out  of  10.

Centuries Of Decay/Self Titled/2017 Full Length Review

Centuries  Of  Decay  are  a  band from  Toronto,  Ontario,  Canada  that  plays  a  very  progressive  and  atmospheric  form  of death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  and  self  titled  2017  album  which  will  be  released  in  August.

Ticking  sounds  and  field  recordings  start  off  the  album  and  after  the  intro  clean  playing  is  added onto  the  album  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  after  awhile  melodic  guitar  leads  and  heavy  riffs  start  to  make  their  presence  known  along  with  some  death  metal  growls.

A  great  amount  of  prog  metal  elements  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  melodic  vocals  are  also  used  at  times  along  with  some  aggressive  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and epic  in  length  and  acoustic  guitars  are  added  on  the  closing  track.

Centuries  Of  Decay  plays  a  style  of  death  metal  that  is  very  progressive  sounding  while  also  being  atmospheric  with  more  traditional  instruments,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  philosophical themes.

In  my  opinion  Centuries  Of  Decay  are  a  very  great  sounding  progressive  and  atmospheric  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Centuries  Of  Decay"  "Odyssey"  and  "Demise".  8  out  of  10.

Satanic/Architecture Of Chaos/Brutal Records/2017 CD Review

Satanic  are  a  band  from  Quebec,  Canada that  plays  a  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Architecture  Of  Chaos"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Brutal  Records.

A  very  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  before  adding  in  elements  of  thrash  metal  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  old  school  death  metal  style  growls  and  screams  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  music  has  roots  in  the  80's  and  90's.

While  most  of  the  music  is  mostly  rooted  in  the  past  it  still  sounds  very  modern  at  the  same  time  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  stick  to  a  very  old  school  style  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  ans  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Satanic  plays  a  musical  style  that  mixes  death  and  thrash  metal  together  to  create  a  very  heavy  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  war  and  Conspiracy  Theory  themes.

In  my  opinion  Satanic  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mephistophelian"  "Armageddon"  and  "Biotech  Warfare".  8  out  of  10.
