Backbone are a band from Argentina that plays a mixture of death and groove metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 ep "R'lyeh".
Atmospheric soundscapes start off the ep before going into more of a heavier thrash influenced direction along with some death metal growls, screams and groove metal elements a few seconds later while the riffs also utilize a great amount of melody and all of the musical instruments sound very powerful.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic yet technical fashion along with clean playing also being added in certain sections of the recording and they also give the music more of a progressive edge and the last track is very long and epic in length.
Backbone plays a musical style that takes technical death metal and groove metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover the writings of H.P Lovecraft and Sacred Geometry themes.
In my opinion Backbone are a very great sounding mixture of death and groove metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Slit The Throat Of Your God" and "Cryptic Geometry". 8 out of 10.
