Mortuary are a band from Russia that plays a war themed version of old school death metal and this is a review of their 2012 demo "Tank Destroyer" which was released by Satanath Records.
War samples start off the album before adding in heavy guitar riffs and death metal growls and the solos and leads the band uses are also very dark and melodic and the riffs also bring in elements of groove and the music goes for more of a mid 90's approach to the genre while also mixing war samples in with the heavier sections of the music.
All of the songs sound like they could of easily been recorded and released more than 20 years ago and the music brings back the feeling you would get from the JL America releases of that era with its raw approach while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and all of the songs stick to mostly a slow or mid paced musical direction while the music does speed up briefly and brings in a few seconds of blast beats and they also bring in a brief instrumental track.
Mortuary plays a style of death metal that is very heavily rooted in the 90's and sticks mostly to a mid paced direction and also avoids any modern trends, the production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover World War II themes.
In my opinion Mortuary are a very great sounding old school death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Naplam" "Warplanes" and "Empty Flesh". 8 out of 10.
